I see that the American Kennel Club Breed standard for Norfolks still asks for a docked tail. 'Tail medium docked, of sufficient length to ensure a balanced outline. Straight, set on high, the base level with the topline.' Here in the U.K, we banned docking ten years ago, and my present Norfolk has a beautiful and expressive tail which she uses to communicate fully with humans and with other dogs. We've kept Norfolks for over 20 years, and put up with the docked tails on the first two because there was no option if we wanted this breed. Jaxon is lovely, a very lucky puppy like all your other dogs, but it's sad to see he hasn't got a proper tail. I wonder how people feel about this issue in the USA?

All of the Norfolks we've ever seen had docked tails, so that's all we know. With a longer tail, it would be harder for us to escape, which we have to do often when we get into trouble, so maybe a longer tail wouldn't be such a good thing. Did you know we're popular in the UK? www.norfolkterriertales.com/friends-in-the-uk/ Jaxon picked up pretty quickly that I'm the boss, so that makes him proper in my book. Don't worry too much about saying Jaxon isn't proper. He doesn't know how to use a map yet, so he's not getting to the UK anytime soon to sort that out with you. - Hank
