I was born in Norfolk 65yrs ago. Grew up on 34th st 2 blocks from "City Park". I was there whit my sis and my gram when kennedy was killed in dallas. Moved to bayview . Grew up fishing. Loved it.

I wish they would rebuild The real OV pier. The other one is harrisons. In my time on OV pier I bet I saw fire works hundred times. Shut down the fish for at least hour. I knew the workers and most of the other fisherpeople on the pier. 12yo could stay fri.-sun alone and not worry. People taught me , and I taught people. I miss those days.

Very informative video of Norfolk, VA. I’m aNavy veteran & I was stationed aboard the USS Seattle AOE- 3 from 9/22/1972 to 7/31/1974. Norfolk has changed a lot in the past half century. It has a very nice baseball stadium that is MLB caliber for the Triple A Norfolk Tides, a trolley, 3 universities-Norfolk State, Old Dominion & Virginia Wesleyan.

He stayed strictly in a neighborhood called Ghent for this video. This is actually a very small part of Norfolk. The rest is actually very poor in condition. I've lived in Virginia Beach, a neighboring city, my whole life and I am currently a student at Old Dominion University in Norfolk. If you plan to travel here, I suggest downtown and Ghent as touristy places to visit. Any other place worth visiting in Hampton Roads is in Virginia Beach. I promise you.

My great uncles ( Hyman) family lived there though I never knew them but their sister my maternal grandmother spoke fondly of Norfolk and Chesapeake back then! I see you have stirred up a slight storm here in the comments! People are sensitive for sure! Though some have robbed the earth for profit mother will always take it back!
