I Love The 611, One of My Favorites Steam Locomotives along With 587, 3985, 1522, and 3751

I remember first watching this back in early 2019 just a few months after I got back into liking trains again. I won't into detail but I will share this as it's on the engine in the program, N&W 611. As a child 611 was the only steam engine I knew about that was no longer running as it was mentioned in the program "Steam in the Summer" it retired from excursion service when the NS shut down its steam program in 1994 and was the only steam engine I knew of that was no longer running. I sure was surprised when I learned it returned to Steam in 2015 for the second/shorter NS Steam program. And while it hasn't been having the best of luck running since 2018, I'm glad to know that my favorite Streamliner has gotten to see another chance at excursion service and has brought in many new railfans who have seen her in action or learned about her history. I hope to see her myself someday as 611 happens to be an engine I've grown close with as my uncle got to see her in action in the first steam program. While it's still unknown what'll come next for the J, I do hope whatever comes next, it'll be a good one, just like this amazing program in its final year of doing excursions on its home rails in Virginia.

Norfolk and Western 611 is one of my favorite steam locomotives in the whole world. I saw her at the Strasburg Railroad when my family and I were on vacation back in July of 2021. Although I never got to ride behind her because she only ran on weekends during the summer, I'm so happy I saw the beautiful streamlined engine when I did.

I had an aunt who was a teacher at Bedford High, Mrs. Howell. We visited them in '67, stayed for about 3 weeks. Roanoke looks like a rail yard with a city built around it.

Only 1 mistake in the introduction, 611 actually has 5,100 horsepower. But otherwise, good stuff, I love 611!

Is that the official rating? I myself wasn't sure I heard a number between 4000 to 8000 with 345 psi on the boiler. the boiler can go up to 400 with all four safety valves open, but the crews try to keep her at or just below 300.

@@RyanHatterer-Ryanns999 Yes, that's the official rating of the N&W J in general at 300 psi.

My most favorite moment on this video was when the 611 and NS Train 29G racing up the Christiansburg Grade. Old steam powered train beats a modern day freight train. What a rare phenomenon it was to see the race of iron horses.
