Mine hasn't been overly abused but after about 13K rounds the last 24 years, its still as solid as when I bought it new.

Mine too… when I first got it,m way back on 96… i think Whenever the new so called assault weapons ban occurred…. I blasted maybe 7 or 8 thousand rounds.. then maybe 5 years ago I put new furniture on it.. M-LOK hand guard rails and Zhukov stock … I’m still under the 11 piece limit so as to stay compliant.. it’s stupid.. but I fired another 5000 rounds after the remodel. But I got bored… now I just keep it tucked away,,,, but close enough for the zombie apocalypse if such an occurrence presents…. Looks really cool,

I've put thousands of rounds through it, when you could have a case of ammo shipped to your door for ~$100, and never had a misfire, ftf, fte, etc, etc. Pull the trigger and bang. It's my shtf gun, too. If you had to bury it under some dirt and brush in a ravine, there's a high level of confidence it will function when you pull it out and need to use it. An AR15, not so much.

My Norinco star is on the underside in front of the magwell. It's a straight cut receiver. I pulled off my factory wood and stored it safely and "modified" some AKM/WASR10 wood to fit and make it look more old school.
@cryptodeath8546 жыл бұрын
You’ve leaving out why they were stamped MAK-90. They were not originally. They were stamped MAK-90 and modified to comply with 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. This why why these rifles were modified with the thumb whole grip and threaded barrel was milled down. Muzzle brake was removed. 30 round mags were not allowed and only 5 round mags were. Why? Because the Chinese were able to still import the rifles after modifying them because it met the requirements under the sporting clause under the Act for a sporting and hunting rifle.
@jason127x996 жыл бұрын
TonyNightKing you got everything right beside the muzzle break. They either had the threads turned down or had a thread protector aka nut wielded to the front site. I've got a Polytech that had the nut wielded. I took a dermal to that. I've got one MAK90 that the barrel never was turned down or have a muzzle nut wielded to it. I took a threading tool to the barrel myself. Super easy to do.

I'm a fan of the MAK-90 and AKs. But in all fairness, the range in the military probably didn't lube the M16s you guys shot, which explains why there were reliability problems. You implied that you have no combat experience with the M16. When lubricated (even when not cleaned), it's a reliable weapon.

Some of the problems with the nam era ARs congress tried to cut the price by not chrome lining the barrels, also some of the ammo used caused dirty fouling!
@TheBargainMan Жыл бұрын
I'm prior service Army Vietnam Era and the AK has always been Far more reliable than the M-16/AR-15 unless you keep the M-16 clean ALL THE TIME. that's why SEAL TEAMS in Vietnam would ONLY USE STONER 63 Rifles, or AKs cuz M-16s weren't reliable enough for them. The only reason the M-16 was given to regular grunts was Colt Bribed Defense Secretary Robert McNamara to make the M-16 the Service Weapon, while the AR-18 was invented by the same guy (Eugene Stoner) who invented the AR-15, M-16, AR-18 & the AR-10. The AR-18 was a much more reliable rifle compared to the M-16, but the Japanese Howa Company acquired the rights to the AR-15 & wouldn't sell them to the US Army because they didn't agree with the US involvement in Vietnam.

I got into AKs in the mid 80s. I originally owned Maadis amd Norincos. That was all that was available at the time. (Yes, there were the rare Valmets) I've owned just about every make and model since...... Bulgarian, Romanian, Russian, East German, and a number of others. I always come back to the Chinese for durability and quality. Hands down those are my favorite and best AKs. I think a lot of the negativity towards Chinese AKs in the early 90s was due to the general low quality of other Chinese products that were being sold at the time. What many didn't realize back then, was that China and the PLA were trying to raise money quickly and selling milspec rifles based on the stock they had on hand.

The only problem I have is mine didn't come with a siderail mount I have on my WASR. That greatly enhances accuracy and the ultimak rail on the handguard sucks in comparison. The Mak 90 is put together really well, but I have the most rounds of any rifle I own through my WASR. It has never failed once. It eats everything and asks for seconds. Have you looked at the prices the MAK-90 is commanding now? Check out Gunbroker and others then you will see that even though his price was absurd when compared to the '90's that's a lower price in today's market if you truly want a MAK-90. Heck, I'm trying to negotiate down from $1K on one and may even pass to save up for an Arsenal SAM7 to have access to a side mount optics rail or Vepr. I may even say screw it for these high priced AK's and just continue shooting our 2 matching # Norinco SKS's. Mine was bought nib decades ago for $129.00 & hers a few years ago for $300.00.

@vlogmoor7 жыл бұрын
Sure bud, well... Your barrel can certainly be threaded, but you'll have to take it to a gunsmith who will use a die to do so. Personally I wouldn't, but of course being able to put a suppressor or muzzle break on there would be fun. The small grooves are just a manufacturing detail. I wondered at first too if It was threaded but a real threaded barrel has prominent markings that are unmistakable. But ultimately if you're willing to pay to have a smith do it you could.

I must correct a few things you said in this video. Not trying to be critical or anything, i am just saying. The MAk-90s were imported from 1989 until 1994 when the first assault gun ban (a ban that mainly banned imports) took affect. Most of the MAK-90s that are marked like yours "sport" were made in the later years as "sport" models, to keep the import status. Most of the "Sport" models had slightly shorter barrels again to be granted "import" status. My MAK-90 doesn't even say anywhere on it "MAK-90". It does say "NHM90", has a threaded muzzle and in the box had a muzzle break. The three 5 round magazines included in the brand new box turned out to be short 10rd magazines. It bears the Norinco star, made in China stamp, has 6 digit serial number, has CSI ONT CA, the gun ammo type (7.62x39), all on left side of rifle forward of magazine. The year designation came later in production, hence why yours serial starts with "94". My model has also a chrome lined barrel, duel hook trigger (supposed to be the smoothest), thumb hole stock (yuk) LOL and barrel that is around 2 inches longer than a standard AK-47. MAK-90s that were in the USA when the ban took affect were "grand fathered" and allowed to be sold until gone. Your is probably one of those. I bought my MAK-90 in 90 or 91. During the few years they were imported and sold, the ATF made revisions to the policy of import before the eventual ban. it seems like every 6 months there were new rules. The first to go was the AK style stocks (birth of the thumb hole stock) including folding stocks). Second was the bayonet. Third was the bayonet lug. Forth were muzzle brakes. Some were still threaded but had a piece of pipe spot welded, of which fell off after it being fired awhile. Fifth was the muzzle brake threading altogether. The MAK-90s were based on the type 56 Chinese AKs (The type 56 AKs were the first made with stamped receivers to save weight and cost, "Chinese innovation". Later was adopted by Russia). Over the few years of import, there were many slight variants (based on when they were imported, by who imported them and changes that had to be made prior to sale). Some of these variants are rare and interesting. Many of the changes made were done in china (before shipping) at the factory. However, if the rules changed while they were in transport many times they were sold as is.

They were milled at 1.5 mm to sustain heavy fire in guerrilla warfare, they manufactured them when they expected Russia to invade them in the 80's and they wanted a tride and true weapon. They succeeded in their goal

Bought mine in 1992 for $250......I had NO IDEA it was worth what it is today!!! Still love my rifle! EDIT: By the way....my rifle is stamped NORINCO, but NOT with the star logo. I wonder how many variants there actually are......🤔

ALOT. The MAK90s are the most common Chinese variants. Personally the MAK would be a beater, but the pre ban Chinese variants are the ones to own and drool over.

Nice gun, but unfortunately, you got the one without the cleaning rod, or threaded barrel. The ones with the welded lug over the threads can be cut off, so you can put a brake on it
@vlogmoor4 жыл бұрын
My barrel isn’t threaded, but it did come with a cleaning rod. I prefer the rifle stay the way it is personally.

@@vlogmoor mac 90 without the break has a hell of a recoil that throws the rifle up to the right. Yours is nice but a break and a traditional stock will put you in the game and you'll thank yourself if shit his the fan..

Vlog thank you for your very informative comments on the chinese ak .I own the Norinco AK type-56 with a folding over and under stock in which I bought in 1989 and shot it 2 to 3 times and about 300 t0 400 rounds rapid fire and never jammed one time.Bought around 400.00 out the door . After I purchased it about 2 to 3 years later it when for 1000 dollars because of the President Bill Clintons gun control measures. The price of the weapon shot up to 1000 dollars and people were still buying them until thy ran out.I cant hardly wait to go and fire this gun again.I recently about 4 years ago purchased IO AK47 and have never fired it and I didnt know about all the negative reviews on it.In fact after I bought it the magazine would not fit in the receiver .I am afraid to fire it and I am not sure how to get rid of it. There life warranty is bogus and supposed to be the better model made in North Carolina and was made at there new plant in Palm Bay FL. I called there phone number about the mag. that didnt fit and there was no answer no voice mail. Please if possibile give me some advice thank you.Also I was happy to subscribe to your channel.

🔫😎 I paid $250. Get an M1A Muzzlebrake with Fine Thread. It must be fine thread otherwise the taps will cut too deep and not have enough turns to hold the MB securely.. **Have your Gunsmith thread the barrel** MB will seat against the front sight post perfectly. Looks awesome and it makes that cool star fire effect when firing in low light. For functionality, the MB will reduce barrel rise by

If it has the square back receiver, then u can put a Chinese stock set to get it back to its old glory , and what is the reason there is no auto pencil importer inscribed on the back of the receiver

The other way to identify the MAK90 is it has that but ugly pistol grip/but stock combo...
@markmiller43766 жыл бұрын
I sold mine years ago. It had a closed stock, not the pistol grip stock. I found it poorly made compared with the more refined Chinese Polytech made variant. My Mac 90 would sometimes fire several rounds at once, as if it was on full auto. Glad I sold it.

Blued bolts are the Military issue bolt carrier & sometimes still have the full-auto cut on the side of the bolt carrier, especially the Clayco models & the "Le Banu" marked MAK-90s from the importer in Ronkonkoma, New York.

Anything Norinco are a collectors item. Norinco makes thier guns out of train tracks. There 1911’s are also great. The only issue is the magazine but you can use a Wilson Combat and it works like a champ.

@@vlogmoor I have herd. Norinco also makes the Hawk Shotgun which is a Remington 870 Clone. And they make a way cool double barrel shotgun. Thanks for the great info. I have a chance to get a MAK90 from a dealer that got in a few months ago, however they are asking $1K for it with the crapola thumb hole stock. Thats a tough one. If its 1k, then I would buy if for collecting purposes because they are the best! However, if you're getting it for SHTF then I'd try to find one for cheaper or even for a wasr 10

Here's a better question. My Mak 90 is in beatiful shape. I am loath to have a gunsmith mod it because I would kick myself if he screwed it up. I don't like the mounts above the gas tube. If you wanted a red dot on it, what would you do? I want to keep it as pristine as possible.

This is a great question. My personal belief is AKs should be iron only lol but I do have an answer for you if you really have to have an optic. Sun Optics USA has a scope/optics piece that should be easy to add to your Mak. Little to no tampering. Maybe try this out and red dot away
