I would appreciate it if every Norm Mcdonald fan would contact the Mark Twain Comedy award organization to get him inducted.
@LordThree11 ай бұрын
I don’t know how to do that, but I’ll look it up and put the info here. Or you can. I’m busy playing backgammon right at this moment. (It’s called the “Mark Twain Prize”) I’m looking for a phone number because there isn’t any information I can find online about how to make nominations. It’s presented by “PBS”, so I might have to call them, but given that Norm was cancelled by the woke mob, it might not be in the cards right now. What is the address to write to PBS? I reached out to PBS BTW. The Mark Twain awards are given out by the Kennedy Center apparently. I have to contact them next I guess. When I called PBS it was like 2 in the morning and I was kinda stoned and had had a few beer. I had to beep thru their automated BS until I got the voicemail box for some guy that I thought would be the most helpful. I left a message explaining the situation. He called back early the next morning while I was hungover and asleep and was very eager to explain about how he didn’t know how the nominations worked and had to look it up himself. Eventually I remembered leaving the message the night before and thanked him, but he sounded disappointed that I didn’t want to chat more. I don’t blame his disappointment- this government employee finally had an intriguing thing to do as part of his work for the public, he did said thing, responded, and I was just like “Kennedy center ehh? Ok, great- thanks man”.

I love this. Very strong vibes of the two of them falling back into a banter-rhythm from 10 years prior, when they were both working on their first sitcoms with a bunch of very funny (…and almost all raunchy) comics. As a comedian Craig really is like a less-feral version of Norm, which I didn’t appreciate until I watched this even though I’ve always loved both of them for being absolutely absurd. Craig’s Late Late Show was also like the closest any late night show got to being Norm’s aesthetic. Peder Hansen Lol funnier? Not a chance. And smarter? Maybe book smart, but you would be surprised at how intelligent Norm is. I can tell you don’t watch much Norm, not only because you think Craig is smarter/funnier, but because you said Norm “has his moments.” Norm does not “have his moments.” He’s not a great stand-up. He’s just naturally funny. Norm is comedy.

Peder Hansen What? Nice, try buddy. Norm is my favorite comedian and I’ve seen every clip I possibly could of him. I’ve watched his stand-up, full episodes of his podcast, his SNL stuff, his Sports Show stuff, and his appearances on Conan, Letterman, Leno, and many other talk shows. I’ve also watched his appearances on Sun News and his appearances on other people’s podcasts. That’s where you can find Norm’s genius. Not only in his comedy, but also when he talks about more serious things. Maybe I’m biased, but I’m no sheep. Have people said he’s a genius? Yes. But I don’t take their word for it. I didn’t get Norm at first, so I understand where you’re coming from. How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking? People rarely love Norm when they first listen to him. You have to know what he’s about to truly appreciate him. I’m not trying to be condescending. That’s just what it is.

I prefer Norm with Conan. They work off each other really well. Especially when Norm sits in while Conan interviews another guest.

+stockjonebills what are you talking about? conan is great but so is craig! craig with norm even better! you gotta poke conan on the ribs sometimes

It's just a different style, Conan is more the "classic" talk show host who plays straight man (in his own way) and just sets up all Norm's bits and then acts all perplexed/offended about it. It's all planned out what Norm is going to do and he has his jokes worked out ahead of time, which is obviously hilarious but Craig's interview style was to always do improv with the guest, hence the interrupting and talking over each other and sometimes they can't find the right words. They're just making shit up as they go along and trying to talk and get laughs without the planned jokes and subjects. If anything I think it's more "natural" and conversational and it's fun to me to watch them try and stay on track but it obviously leaves more room for mistakes. Craig's show was never about making a smooth interview or picking jokes and stories to do in advance, it was pretty much 100% dependent on how much chemistry they had with Craig and that made it intentionally very hit or miss. I agree that Norm is better with Conan, though. But honestly Norm does the exact same thing on his podcast, anyway, he commandeers the whole thing and his guests are basically just along for the ride. Whenever an episode turns into a trainwreck then people generally blame the guest (unless it's obvious Norm steered it that way on purpose, which you can never be too sure of! :P)

That's what I love about norm bouncing off of other comics lol. He just drives in the direction he wants, and if they can't keep up things get more and more painful for them.
@danendrahartawan92687 жыл бұрын
stockjonebills the thing with Norm is you gotta let him take the conversation, and Conan does that perfectly. Craig is a great interviewer, but he's more of a banter kind of person, and that cramps Norm's style a little bit here
@d4n4nable7 жыл бұрын
Here's why: Norm goes against conventions all the time. Conan's show has a very traditional late night format and Conan acts the part too. So Norm goes ahead and undermines it (he tells the pre-show guy stories he then completely ignores when Conan leads into them, dizzes his guests, tells these long-winded nonsense jokes, etc.). Craig's show is already a deconstruction of the format. He can't really one-up that. So he's just sitting there, riffing and having fun. Still enjoyable, but not the same "shock-factor."
