47 minutes of pure beauty. Kudos for the bass player

I'd played this 28 years ago when I was at music college, with Kenny and John Taylor directing. Hearing it again after so long has brought back those days, along with a sense of nostalgia and longing for a time when the world seemed simpler and more straightforward. I don't think that's an accident. Though I didn't notice it at the time -- too busy getting the notes right! -- this piece now seems underpinned by a profound sense of melancholy and loss, made all the more poignant by the overt emotionalism of Norma Winstone's ethereal, often other-worldly vocals. Norma is amazing here and despite the light purity of voice she nonetheless brings weight and heartfelt honesty to this performance, as in everything she does. Thank you so much for posting this @hfmFRANZLISZTweimar. 🕊️

Fabulous. I first heard Norma Winstone, live with Michael Garrick, in 1973, and it's marvellous that she's still performing like this. And it's heartwarming that Kenny Wheeler's music is being kept alive.

Man those big, thick, block chords are just so awesome. Kenny Wheeler was a master at these beautiful harmonic movements, so complex and rich. For me hell is a world without harmony (not the can't we all just get along type).

I saw Norma Winstone at Exeter Uni in '67 or '68 and never forgot her, and am very happy to've found her again.

This is gorgeous. Also, there's another video on this platform that sounds near identical so I'm inclined to believe they are the same but this one shows the actual artists, Fantastic performance from them all, including Norma, I would love to shake every single one of their hands and give them a warm hug for the hours of wholesomeness they've provided. Well done!

What a marvelous composition. Norma handles those intervals with such fluid grace, it's gorgeous. The woman on tenor gets the best hair matching her shoes award though.

Probabilmente il più bel disco per orchestra uscito negli ultimi 31 anni. Meno male che ce l'ho in cd. Fosse stato in vinile avrei dovuto gettarlo perchè fuso... AAA
