That blonde Telecaster has the old style wiring. If you ease the switch into the 2nd position, you get both PUPS running ... James Burton's was wired out of phase. You can get a lot of neat sounds with that switch without having to touch the tone knob. That cherry sunburst, maple board Stratocaster combination had not been seen since 1958 and people were very excited about this in the early '70s.

@TheQuarterback:OutofthePocket He bought a truck load from the Arlington guitar show l was just at. They went thru there on friday and cherry picked everything. Jimmy Wallace is my old friend so l know the game. lm just saying these people w/ endless bank get these guitars before the players can and they have been since the 70s. Its inflated the price of all guitars. l grew up down the street from Charleys guitars in Dallas. lve played 50s models since l was a kid. Not all of them are even good guitars but the marketing of them has been epic.

Mwyatt222, you act like there aren't enough guitars in the world at affordable prices for players. I will assure you, the affordable guitar market is flooded with options. I would also go so far as to say some cheap guitars are pretty damn good. So there is no need for your complaint over "too many" expensive collector guitars. There's plenty at the other end of the spectrum also.

My first electric was a mid-60's ES-335 12-string. I bought it at Richard's Guitar on July 3, 1976 for $300. I played that guitar for years as my main axe. I bought it with 6 strings and I never put 12 strings on it. The nut is a crazy short 1-9/16". I still play the guitar though today it's part of a larger collection. BTW, I also have another Kalamazoo electric - an H575 (an ES-175 style gitfiddle) from Heritage, the guys at 225 Parsons, the old Gibson factory. Heritage makes a great guitar too.

I too have one, purchased for $250 in 1977. It was also strung as a 6-string and has remained so to this day. Mine was born as a sunburst, but a previous owner sanded it down and brushed on a clear finish. The summer of '78, I sanded that off and sprayed it with gloss poly, but must have put the 2nd coat on too soon so it's matte. Original finish on the neck, headstock and sides though.

I really was thinking vintage guitars were not to be found at the pawn shop or other stores At a good price anyways These internet days so much info is out there But I found a mint w original case Unmolested only finish checking 65 Gibson Melody Maker 2 pick up model No breaks..nothing 599 plus tax I couldn't believe it Great guitars Norm

I have a 1974 20th anniversary Cream Gibson Les Paul custom near mint condition all original. First anniversary issue Gibson ever made in a Les Paul custom. Wonder what Norman would give me for it. What sucks is I live in PA and his shop is in CA. Be tough to take it in to show him.

I still have my fathers 1969 (oct)strat. It's all original including all 5 springs and the ashtray. Only thing I've done to it is a new nut and Lindy Fralin did the pick-up rewinds. Also have the silver face Princeton amp. Sadly my children don't care about such things so will someday sale it I guess. The guitar I've always wanted but never had is a Gipson Hummingbird. Daddy had a Lyle hummingbird and that was the first guitar I learned to play on.

Probably an option at the time, the sides are maple too, it's basically a Dove, cool guitar but won't sound like a (60's Keith) Hummingbird.

All lovely guitars. The nerd in me says that Hendrix died in Sept 1970, so calling a '71 Strat Hendrix era is stretching it a bit. I've got a May '71 hardtail Strat that came, used, from the USA and was once converted and flipped for LH use (nut slots filed accordingly and front strap button repositioned on heal). It was well beat up when I bought it in the early 80's for £250, so it was well gigged (usually a good sign). It's very light at 7lbs and still pays/sounds super, although the original PU's have been replaced by Jim Cairns PU's. He made them for Chris Rea for a while. I've still got the originals but the middle one needs a rewind. I've also got a '71 Tele that was blond with a rosewood board (quite rare for '71) but was given an amateur black body finish some year ago. It actually looks quite cool, with the black worn through to the blond in the right paces. Apart from that it seems original, although the guard is severely gnawed around the truss rod access area. I don't know why I'm typing all this really but somebody might be interested?
