My step-by-step guide to Nollie Heelflips.
1) Front foot is one inch behind the edge of your nose and in the "pocket" between the edge and bolts.
2) Back foot is in heel flip position (toes hanging over the edge of the board) just in front of the trailside bolts.
3) Crouch very low (if your butt gets close to your heels you're doing it right), and begin raising your knees and head.
4) Pop once your head/knees have risen 6-10 inches.
5) Pop your nose angled (like you're pushing your front foot through the front of the nose).
6) Kick your back foot at an angle, and off the backside edge of your tail.
7) Keep your knees bent to catch the board and wait to land (DO NOT PUSH YOUR LEGS DOWN TO FORCE A LANDING).
Repeat until you're comfortable. When attempting to clear gaps, flip over/up, you must give about eighteen inches of clearance, which means you will need to be comfortable performing the trick at higher speeds.

I can't tell you how much that tip about crouching down to the point of touching your heels. I was practicing nollie flips today and I couldn't find the right timing. As soon as I crouched properly it made the nollie flip feel way more fluid. I never skated nollie and switch as a kid, so now at 38 it's so satisfying to land a good leveled out nollie flip. Thank you brother!

Nice no BS video here.. I see other dudes doing tutorials but they also have a ton of little gimmicks or things that are stupid simple like "Big wheels vs Small wheels" or something as an example. This particular tutorial of yours is a little advanced compared to theirs but its good for dudes like ME. So of course, I appreciate you! I just hit that bell too!

Best insights period. Never thought about how your feet essentially take the identical but opposite path then you pop and flick a nollie heel. Also never thought about my head a single time while doing any trick and that will be a huge help in being more consistent in certain ways I think. I'm always obsessed with my shoulders.

Great tutorial Norman...loving the channel. I can already nollie heel and I'm wondering if you have any tips on nollieing off a kicker or other upwards incline. When I try any nollie tricks up (off) a kicker can't seem to get any height or stops me on my tracks. Pushing down seems to stop me from going upwards off the kicker. Should I be kicking my front foot forward as you suggest to get me up and over the kicker? Thank you
@NormanWoods
@NormanWoods 4 жыл бұрын
Andres Forero kickers are tricky. If you start with a really mellow ramp, it’s easier to get the hang of it. You have to pump as you start to crouch, and pop right at the end of your pump. All about the timing. Also, focus on the angle your front foot is pushing the board into the ramp. I hope this helps.

I recently started skating again at 36, I just skate in the shop after work for 20 minutes here and there. Got nollie flips back nearly first try, but tried nollie heels for like a half hour and couldn’t stick one and ride away (so close but something is off). I tend to land leaning forward too much and step off the board even when I catch them. Gonna try crouching more Monday, and definitely need to pop forward more like you mentioned (that’s how I nollie flip). You’re sick though man.

Have decent control of your Ollie (consistent, be able to do it onto curbs, etc.). Then I’d put my back foot a little on the heel edge with the toes covering the board (helps with rotation). Also, have your shoulders perpendicular to the board (facing the direction you’re rolling) instead of parallel like you would with a normal Ollie. This helps you see where your going and makes the rotation easier. Front foot like an Ollie with your toes hanging off the board slightly (middle of the board or before the front bolts). Wind up a little bit and then pop while turning. It might help you do catch it on the nose and complete the rotation with a pivot at the end.

Norman Woods its hard for me to get off the ledge without the board flipping upside down
@NormanWoods
@NormanWoods 4 жыл бұрын
Lucas Lum you must be lifting too high off the board, and not grinding long before that. Try grinding a bit longer, and and just before you reach the end of the ledge crouching a bit lower and then doing a tiny nollie to come out. Push your front foot forward, similar to how I do for the nollie here at 0:14. You also want to make sure your front shoulder is inside the ledge and your back shoulder out over your back foot while grinding. Imaging balancing your weight equally on each side. I hope this helps.

Hey Norman, some tips to prevent sprained ankles?
@NormanWoods
@NormanWoods 3 жыл бұрын
I’m healing from one right now. First I’ve had in ten years. My left foot landed on the edge of a curb. So, the first tip: avoid landing on the edge of curbs/stairs 😂😂😂 Next: skate the right size/length deck. I’m my opinion there are very few upsides to smaller decks. The perceived ease of flipping is a myth, unless you’re attempting triple flips and beyond (out of my realm of experience/interest). If your foot is average (US male size 9-10.5) I recommend an 8 or 8.25. Size 11 and up go with the 8.3-8.5 width. You’re wheelbase should be wide enough that when you land bolts your feet are spread shoulder with. Your nose and tail should be just a bit longer than the width of your foot. Having these dimensions will help you avoid landing and having your foot roll over the edge. Last, for now, is to make sure you look at your feet and board while attempting tricks. Staring off into space is the easiest way to sustain multiple sprained ankles, as I did the first three years of my skating.
