Someone making a video about budget stuff whilst running an Decent espresso machine, a niche zero and a DF made me chuckle
@mycoffeeshow111 Жыл бұрын
This channel is all about making you smile. Btw I sold Niche Zero. Now I have Duo, DF83 and couple of Kafateks but still use Normcore tools.

I'm not convinced about the Normcore leveler but I have noticed a real difference since I switched to using a Normcore tamper. I also think using a puck screen has made a good change as well as using a dosing funnel- for me, the whole process is now more uniform and a lot cleaner. I enjoyed watching you make coffee!
@mycoffeeshow1118 ай бұрын
Thx for watching. I do agree with you about leveler. I actually sold mine as I was not using it much. Puck screen was never my thing but I can see why people use it.

You’re just saying that, lol. Nice setup - you’re a genuine guy and I like watching you. How do you get all the coffee kit past the wife committee? Can you do a video on that?! 😂

Hahaha, thank you for that. Not easy. I buy some, I sell some. Sometimes I get some stuff for free. We will see how much longer will I keep up with this hobby. Not the cheapest one.

did you consider getting Decent’s (expensive) tamper and their machine linked scales - this is the best and most ‘real’ coffee show out there - thanks so much
@BensCoffeeRants2 жыл бұрын
I've used both, the V3 Normcore and Decent V3 Tampers, I like the Decent one just because it does not have the weight calibration so you feel all the resistance of the coffee and it being compressed, but the Normcore is great for the price and if you want the additional weight calibration OR a more precise fitting 58.5mm base then it's a better option than the Decent one actually. You can actually interchange the bases on them, same size screw for the base! So for a while I had probably the ONLY Decent V3 with a 58.5mm tight fitting base (using the base from the Normcore one) but I kinda got tired of the tight fit, sometimes if you have coffee on the sides of the tamper it gets stuck and you run the risk of causing a vacuum effect where it sucks the coffee back up when you try to remove the tamper. It's easier and quicker with the less precise fitting one, so I went back to that. I don't think it causes any issues with the brewing not having a super tight fit for the tamper.

@@BensCoffeeRants I don’t know about Decent tamper, but with Normcore, as long as you twist after you press it should not suck the basket up.
@BensCoffeeRants2 жыл бұрын
@@mycoffeeshow111 Yeah I haven't tried that twisting or a spin motion. I wasn't referring to your scale in that comment I was talking about how the Normcore tamper regulates your tamling pressure, the Decent brand doesn't so you can tamp as hard or light as you want but you get more feel of the coffee being compressed while tamping.
@mycoffeeshow1112 жыл бұрын
@Igreen666 Decent tamper is a bit too expensive. If I wanted to spend that much I would probably buy something else. My scale connects perfectly with the machine but tbh I haven’t seen Decent scale in action. I think they put it under the drip tray?

Honestly I would go for the normcore just because I wouldn’t have to worry about level tamping. I’d love to see a video in wich you taste the differences between wdt and ocd Vs wdt vs only ocd
@mycoffeeshow1112 жыл бұрын
It is definitely very convenient and you know each time the tamping is very similar. I could do video like that. How many shots should we go for? One with each method or multiple shots? My daily limit is 4 coffees/espresso and I hate to waste good (and expensive) coffee so the video would have to be shot over many days. Or maybe just one shot with each method and I would ask viewers to do the same and put their findings in the comments?
@ardeleanalex69182 жыл бұрын
Definitely as few shots as possible (one per method should be enough as the decent can show you how similar they brewed-I think), the main thing probably comes down to wdt with ocd and tamper versus wdt with just the tamper. Either way, I’m sure that it would be a great video!
@endlessocean17312 жыл бұрын
Preparing more even distribution with WDT is more important than the leveler. I have the normcore leveler too, but how i distribute with wdt is more affect the espresso flow.
@mycoffeeshow1112 жыл бұрын
I think you might be right. Maybe one day I will do video about it as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
@Hammie4Life2 жыл бұрын
another interesting video! apparently wedges causes there to be uneven distribution in the puck based on where you place the wedge in, would be interested in you trying out a super even extraction shot like how "jkim makes" does it, using a paper filter and only using wdt, love your taste notes for every shot :)

If you don’t do it it may lift the basket up or suck up the puck. I must have seen it on some YT video but let it be my discovery 😛

@ferdinandludo8851 Yes, Normcore 58.5mm works with Flair 58 porta filter. I got it with the special coating so the coffee does not stick to the tamper as much. Keeping it clean with a brush helps too.
