Great analysis, I think there are a bunch of these super wealthy musicians who’s popularity I just can’t fathom at all in terms of their actual music, but of course the fortune they’ve amassed is not really based on that. Artists like Beyoncé have always approached their career as a business and leveraged everything they can to create a ‘Brand’ and then sell absolutely any product they can think of under that brand. Social media has been absolutely key to this.

Paul McCartney was the first billionaire musician. Taylor Swift made her billions of music, media, merch, and advertising.
@Azarath_Metrion_ZinthosАй бұрын
Paul McCartney's billionaire status mostly came from the net worth of his Beatles catalogue master recordings. Half of Taylor's networth is also thanks to her master recordings worth about almost $500M. Her master recordings networth cud rise since she is currently in the process of re recording her old albums which she lost her rights to & has 2 more projects to go.

There's lots more to it. 1) The right timing. She got signed at the right time, place and age by the right people who could build her as a brand and star. Big Machine was a big part of it. 2) The right genre. Country pop music is a really big in North America. And she ended being the GOAT by merging pop music and country in just the right way. 3) Authenticity. She has as good as always been very genuine, sincere, down to earth and on the right side of law and moral. No posh drama. No shady business. No drugs etc. This makes her a great role model. 4) The way she played her cards through the pandemic and the years after took her to the next level. In 2020 she was booked for festival gigs. But releasing a lot of laid back introverted and personal music in the pandemic etc. boosted her fame. Four years later she breaks all records possible. She has around 118 career related world records now. 5) Right now the worlds audience wants bigger and bigger concerts. Partly because of FOMO. Partly because of monopoly by Live Nation and Ticket Master etc. 6) She has a catalog of around 250 songs / 11 albums. This gives her a steady income. 7) She is beautiful, likeable, fit and healthy. Beauty sells. 8) She has gained control of her music and business - and rerecorded several albums. This means more money in her own pocket. 9) She care about her fans. The first many years of her career she would stay and greet her fans after and before the show. She cares. This pays off now. 10) She has managed to make new fans in several generations. 11) She has kept momentum throughout her career avoiding long periods of nothing. 12) there are many more reasons. And them all combined gets her to where she is today. Becoming a billionaire by music is close to impossible. She did it by playing the game just the right way. Hats off to her and whom ever helps her out with the strategies and planning. They did a spectacular job.

ROFL Everyone is/was commenting on Tayor Swift, and I literally busted a gut laughing when I saw your comment. Like, BAM! *Avalanche Alert* Falling rocks. (I remembered your comment from the PRS nosedive video.) Thanks for the best laugh in a long time. But seriously Utkarsh, maybe heed this advice. Those guitars are going to start dropping one-after-another. You could do a video of the new wall set-up. Agree, Utkarsh is good at his KZbin gig.

Um, sure Utkarsh. However, not just Chris (builder/carpenter) and me (mechanical engineer) but *quite a few* of the peeps and peers under your PRS crash video suggested anchoring into wall studs. Drywall is very weak and unstable. It's your world, and your call. A neighbor once asked me to hang a sizeable mirror and tried handing me drywall anchors. I informed her I needed to mount it into the wall studs. She got mad and *insisted* I use the anchors. Kept trying to hand them to me. I told her they wouldn't hold, and the mirror would fall, possibly on her dog. Being a dog owner myself, I thought THAT might persuade her to change her mind. Nope. She got even more angry and kept insisting I use the anchors. I told her I couldn't and wouldn't. And that if she ever changed her mind to call me. Picked up my tools and left. The mirror never got hung and stayed on the floor, leaning against her wall for years. 🙃

@@MCSA210 Calm down it’s not her fault. I’m just explaining where some of the resentment comes from. All that adoration comes with some level of hate. @@brandong298 That's my point, to blame a pop star for being super popular is next level stoopid. It's kinda like blaming Michael Jordan for jumping too high and dunking the ball too much. Not saying ur doing this, but I hear a lot of people viscerally hating her, it's weird.
@brandong298Ай бұрын
@@MCSA210 Emotions are rarely logical. You feel the way you feel. It’s what you give energy to that matters. I would say to Taylor fans stop fighting with haters she’s winning. I thought so too until I was having dinner with a rather sophisticated middle aged woman and learned she's a big fan of Taylor--she actually gushed over her. Taylor has been around so long that her early fans have just continued the fandom of their youth without question. The pop star never peaked, she just survived and thrived, adding new fans on the way, but also keeping the loyalty of now-aging fans.

A creative genius (Dali, Warhol, Jane's Addiction, Madonna (I lived through her stupid controversy phase, so.......trust me, etc.) knows how to go JUST so far. A commercial and marketing genius knows where to go (via the true geniuses before) and grab the attention, money, and momentum. Whatever. She got the cash and attention via money and amazing marketing. Take the money. Take it all. But I do not believe she changed anything like Jane's Addiction. She got the money. THEY got the Legacy. Taylor Swift is not the first musical billionaire. Paul McCartney, Jay-Z are both worth more than $1B. And Michael Jackson's estate is estimated at $2 Billion.
@Azarath_Metrion_ZinthosАй бұрын
She is the first musician to become a billionaire having incomes from music alone .. Jay Z has multiple business endorsements to reach billionaire status. Michael Jackson's case is different since he's dead & it's his estate that's worth $2B he wasn't a billionaire when he was alive & was under huge debt past 2000... Idk about Paul McCartney's case though but I'm assuming that most of his networth comes from the worth of the master recordings of the Beatles catalogue perhaps.

I’m not sure either, but I’m willing to bet it’s a substantially higher number than what either of us would guess. There two things we know for sure: 1. When younger generations vote in large numbers they generally lean to the left (if you were in the US AND alive back then think back to Bill Clinton’s first election-it was decided by young voters, myself included, and there was a huge push to encourage younger people to vote and the music industry, well honestly, the entire entertainment industry in general was a large part of the push). 2. The majority of Taylor Swift fans are female and due to several different factors both during Trump’s Presidency and since NOW is a very important time for women in this country to make their voices heard.
