The Norris Geyser Basin consists of two different basins: Porcelain Basin and Back Basin. They are each unique and home to geysers, hot springs, and fumaroles. There is evidence that this area has been active for the past 115,000 years. Each of the trails start near the Norris Geyser Basin Museum. We first hiked the Porcelain Basin which is a 0.6 mile loop. This basin is a colorful, ever-changing landscape with some cool hydrothermal features such as Congress Pool, Porcelain Springs, Crackling Lake, and Whale's Mouth. We noticed a big difference in color from the last time we visited in 2017.
Back Basin goes through a wooded area with geysers and hot springs off to the sides. On this trail there are some amazing hydrothermal features such as Steamboat Geyser, Echinus Geyser, Emerald Spring, Puff'n'Stuff Geyser, Green Dragon Spring, Veteran Geyser, and Yellow Funnel Spring.
