The song is performed by Norwegian musician Harald Foss.
The emblem I used in the video is made by me (based on an interpretation of the Viking raven banner) and it doesn't represent any historical state or group of people.
The Battle of Stamford Bridge took place at the village of Stamford Bridge, East Riding of Yorkshire, in England, on 25 September 1066, between an English army under King Harold Godwinson and an invading Norwegian force led by King Harald Hardrada and the English king's brother Tostig Godwinson. Both Hardrada and Tostig, along with most of the Norwegians, were killed at the battle. Although Harold Godwinson repelled the Norwegian invaders, his army was defeated by the Normans at Hastings less than three weeks later. The battle has traditionally been presented as symbolising the end of the Viking Age.
Lyrics:
Höyrer Harald Sigurdsson,
dei draumtegn frå brodir Olav:
Matkhugen må du dölje no, ille det deg gange.
Höyr no ikkje på Toste Jarl,
der han eggjar til England å fara.
Tord han hadde ein underleg draum,
og ilt tyda draumine mange.
På våren i 1066 ei ferd vart förebudde.
Maktglad konge i noreg rådde,
og leidang baud ive landet.
Eit hundre og fem og nitti skip,
til Orknöy-jarlen dei sigla vest,
og Torfinn Jarl sine söner lest
eit hundre fleire langskip.
Kom dei fram til Jordvik by då fyste slaget gnydde.
Då andre slaget i ofse rann,
English Translation:
Hear you Harald Sigurdsson,
the dream-signs from brother Olav:
The power lust you must quench now, badly you will fare.
Do not listen to earl Tostig,
who wishes to travel to England.
Tord he had a strange dream,
and foreboding the many dreams were.
In the spring of 1066 a journey was prepared.
A power-hungry king reigned over Norway,
and raised the lands' levies.
One hundred and fifty six ships,
To the Earl of Orkney, they sailed west,
and Earl Torfinn's sons loaded
one hundred more longships.
As they arrived in York the first battle commenced.
Earl Muru-Kåre fell and Earl Valtjov fled.
Harald and Tostig rushed forth,
But Earl Valtjov swore to them,
"the Knight's of the King's table
you will meet at Stamford Bridge."
Harald and Tostig on the next day roamed with no mail armor worn,
Far ahead the sun reflected of helmets and mail armors many.
"The English King it surely is,
I recognize Thingmannalid's clothes."
The Norsemen army was caught off guard,
they stopped at Stamford Bridge.
They decided that all men should fight.
As Styrkår rode down to the ships as fast as he could.
But in order to win time,
they bade Thjodolf the Strong
to hold the king's men
out there on Stamford Bridge.
And long Thjodolf held his ground against the Anglo-Saxon king,
but a spear reached him from below, thus they came across.
As the second battle raged,
Øystein and Styrkår and all their men
from the ships they ran in order to reach
Stamford Bridge at time.
Harald went before his men and rained blows to all sides,
A greylag feathered arrow then flew, that was the Norsemen king's bane.
As Øystein and Styrkår arrived,
fully dressed in chain mail,
for toil and hurry they barely reached
the fight at the hill at Stamford Bridge.
As the third battle began, Orreira was called
and many fell, but the Norsemen were forced to flee.
thus it was William's men
from France that won the throne
and the Norsemen's law was culled
out there at Stamford Bridge.
