North America Deer Slam - California Sambar on Hearst Ranch | Mark V. Peterson Hunting

Mark Peterson continues his journey for the North America Deer Slam. Next up on the list, a California Sambar. Sambar originated from Asia and were brought over to the Hearst Ranch in the early 1920s. After a fire wiped out the enclosure, they decided to let the animals roam the 80,000-acre estate. With proper management and selective harvests, these Sambar have thrived for the last 95 years.

Man another awesome hunt , property, deer species and another adventure! That's a super cool species to go after especially on a piece of land like that, had to be a bucket list/dream hunt for sure! Really cool landscape with some great examples of a mature sambar deer!

The country looks very much like New Caledonia which is a great place to hunt Rusa deer , most of our sambar in Australia 99%of them live in the mountains .nice stag mate .

Better without that 'guide'... as is every hunt.. God I hate guided hunts.. How tacky, driving around like that. Absolutely ruined it.
