It'd be fun to see a 2024 North American DCFC annual review. I'd like to see where the stations are going up, how it compares to 2023, a breakdown of how the pace of installation is accelerating and who the big players are and how their coverage and expansion rates compare. Love your stuff 👍

I admit that I wish we'd see DCFC expansions starting to match those from Tesla. Maybe IONNA will step up to the plate…? BTW, I just watched a video of a 2025 Ioniq 5 being able to plug in and charge from a Supercharger without a problem. Nice! Well done, Hyundai!

EA and evgo are a lot smaller than Tesla. I think EVgo's plan was to add about 900 stalls per year but that will increase with the loan from the DOE. I have no idea what EA's expansion plans are.
@ab-tf5fl19 сағат бұрын
I thought the superchargers were volt-limited, so even though an Ioniq 5 can plug into them, it would be power limited, so the charging would be much slower than plugging into Electrify America. Is that still true?
@Yanquetino17 сағат бұрын
@@ab-tf5fl Yes. 2022-2024 models only get ~97W from a Supercharger, although that rate remains steady all the way to 80% -which makes them nearly as fast as a Tesla. The new 2025 models charge at ~130kW, which also remains steady. Teslas usually drop to ~50kW at 80%

Thanks as always. My wife’s home state of Arkansas seems to be last in line for adding chargers, I wonder why.

Why not adjust the data for chargepoint which distorts the figutes? Or adjust all the others to the same matrix. I am talking about the new stalls.. Are these stalls at car dealers public stations?
@thenetworkarchitectchannel20 сағат бұрын
I have long considered doing so. It has to do with how many single units they have. When I do groupings, it sometimes gets missed if there is existing stations. Instead, I prefer the method of keeping it a clean simple call for what is new this time and just live with the way they do it. Good point though. As far as where CP puts them, some are at car dealerships, but I would say most are not. Really all over the place.

Thanks, Walter. Just so you know, the town (where I live) in Massachusetts is pronounced “AG-uh-wom”, with the final part like the “wam” in “wigwam.” I’ll have to go check out the new chargers at our local Ford dealer.

I am going to check out the EVgo and Tesla chargers that just opened up here in the Orlando Area. Might try to do a charge on the EVgo this weekend. I will let you know how it looks!

@@mkt3000 Nothing more on brand than out of commission chargers at EvGO. I just don't get it. I want to love them, but its hard to lol. Pilot Flying J stations seem to be much better and face less downtime

@@coolknight99 It's a nearly brand new station, with 3 cabinets with 2 chargers each. 1 was down in each cabinet - so maybe something to do with load sharing? Additionally, for a nearly brand new station, several of the chargers are already scuffed and scratched. Most of the people using it seem to be tourists who were given an EV rental car with little or no instruction, an they treat the charging infrastructure about as well as their rentals. At least there's places to eat nearby for the tourists who will undoubtedly charge their rentals to 100%.

@@mkt3000 I agree that customers damaging chargers are an issue, but there's cable management solutions used by companies like alpatronix that makes it hard to damage the equipment b/c it retracts correctly. EvGo has amazing features like autocharge and TOU pricing unlike EA, but they have such silly frustrating issues

I think on these videos, it would be nice to see a summary of the total number of new stations and stalls broken down by region and state, across all providers.

ah, so what area of the country is getting the most love, right?

Thanks, Walter! I'm liking some of the locations on those recent EVgo chargers. It looks like they are branching out from the major cities again, and Hesperia and Santa Maria are both on major travel corridors (I-15 and Highway 101, respectively).

Good to hear. Hopefully they will be a major player in CA this year with all new 350 hardware.

evgo needs working chargers in the areas where they already exist- tons of them are out of service in my area. Per their app 8 stations in the Phila area have stalls out of service and when you send in a complaint you get generic "we're working on it" response. They seem to be worse than EA in the current era when it comes to uptime.
@newscoulomb370519 сағат бұрын
@shethjones4494 It's probably a regional and hardware age issue more than anything else. For me, EVgo has easily been one of the most reliable public charging providers. Just a quick look at the Phila area, and I only see one problem station (3 plugs not working), and for the other ~7 stations, I only see another 3 plugs not working. That's just their 350 kW sites, though. Keep in mind, "Unavailable" might also mean "In Use," which means it's working, but someone is currently using it.

🙋🏻♂️Question for the professor! I’ve noticed that there’s a difference in the data where some Tesla SCs include the Magic Dock (I’m assuming that’s what J1772COMBO means). But, V4 dispensers have that built in. So, for example, the Athens, AL Buc-ee’s is V4 but doesn’t show as a combo in the data. What does the difference in connection type mean, if anything? Does the COMBO designation mean it was a V3 Magic Dock station??

Aga-wam, MA. That is Sarat Ford, so typical car dealer install.

My first reaction to EVConnect's tiny sites was that they are a joke. However, considering that they'll all at dealerships, maybe it makes sense. Nobody in their right mind goes to a dealership to charge their car if they can possibly help it, so I would imagine most of the use case being salespeople demonstrating to customers how to fast-charge an EV to people who have never done it before.

They are typically compliance chargers used by srv staff, is what I have found.

I am unsure why they are not in presence yet, but your assumption and mine are the same at this point. Eventually, they will need to have a means to add to the AFDC database like everyone else.

Per the tracking site for PA we now have 15 nevi stations under construction and I believe 4 are open currently. Based on a report our DOT put out in August, several dozen are expected to open this calendar year. As for evgo, it's great they are opening stations but in my area they have tons that are out of service. I think they are the new EA unfortunately. Not sure what their plan is but they are going to fall behind if they can't get their maintenance together.

@@thenetworkarchitectchannel February is when they'll come out of public beta. Supposedly that's when they'll consider making changes to the price as well. It would be nice if at least we started seeing PIPs and permits even if construction is in the near future.
