North and Middle Sister climb.

Climbed the North and Middle Sisters in Oregon in one day on 7/21/14. Hiked the Pole Creek trailhead the night before and gained the northwest ridge of the North Sister. Camped out at 7,000 feet and and left camp at 6 am. Took around 10 hours to summit both mountains hike back to camp and back to car.

primalarcher from my camp at 7000 feet on the North Sister its took 10 hours to climb North and Middle go back to Camp get my gear and hike back to my car. The night before it took about 4 hours to hike from my car to camp so in total around 14 hours of hiking. The north Sister is a technical climb given the travers where I needed a axe and crampons. I did it early in the season while there was still snow on the traverse. My friend just climbed it a couple weeks ago via the same route and the traverse was snow free and she was able to climb across with no tools. Not sure of any other routes on the mountain.

Was it 10 hours from your camp to car or car to car. I am thinking of doing this on this Friday. The route you took with ice axe did you have to go that way or is there another route that does not require an ice axe? Jason

How hard are these climbs compared to the South Sister?

Middle is a bit harder. North is much harder and is a technical climb.

@@MattCookOregon ... A bit harder by leaps and bounds, or just a tad? I ask because I've summited South Sister and Broken Top (during the month of August in back-to-back summers), and am now wanting to conquer the Middle Sister.

@@cubanoa1aMiddle/broken are similar difficulty. broken top has vertical climb while middle does not. But it does have a steep skree at the top. I do have a video on all those summits if interested

@@MattCookOregon ... Absolutely. I'd enjoy watching those videos. I'm in pretty good shape, but wouldn't dare summit the North Sister or Mt. Jefferson without someone who knows what they're doing and has the proper equipment, of course!
