It'll be awesome if the Tar Heels joined the SEC. We know basketball can compete with the likes of Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Auburn, and more. I'm not sure what the football team would do but I hope they can give those team fits.

North Carolina and Virginia should go to the SEC I mean there rivalry is called the South’s oldest rivalry. North Carolina also has a rivalry with South Carolina it makes the sec a more well rounded conference with football and basketball powers and it completes there acquiring of all the southern states.

When the SEC asked for more money from ESPN to play one more conference game, ESPN said no. So the SEC stuck with an 8 game conference schedule. I really think that if the SEC can’t get more money out of ESPN to add North Carolina then they either won’t add North Carolina or North Carolina will have to join at no share or half share of total revenue until the TV contracts are renegotiated. Same goes for Florida State and any team that didn’t try to get out the ACC before they signed that horrible grant of rights agreement.

a) The word is that the SEC has a pro rata clause for staggered +2 expansions. The apparently is no pro rata for additional conference games. b) Offering a partial share to UNC will likely result in losing it to the B1G. c) The ACC's media deal was praised at the time.

The SEC has a full share pro rata clause in their contracts with ESPN but is contingent on the SEC adding only two new schools at a time. Contracts are plural because there are actually two. The media deal contracts between the SEC and ESPN run concurrently through 2033-2034 and cover ALL SEC games, both in conference and out of conference. ESPN said no to adding more money for a 9th conference game because it has the contractual media rights to all games played by the SEC. But that has nothing to do with expansion and the pro rata clause. Beginning in 2025, SEC members are projected to each get between 73 - 75 million dollars annually. By 2029 the contracts escalate and the projections are at 105 million dollar per member per year for the SEC. By the end of the contract in 2033-2034, projections are between 124 to 127 million per member annually. So yes, UNC will join the SEC as a full share member if and when they leave the ACC. Other than FSU, any of the ACC schools would join the SEC if they knew they could get an invite. A few of them actually will get invited once they leave the ACC.

@@jansonroberts2616 let me start by saying this, I am in no way saying that UNC will not ever be in the SEC. However, I do believe the pro rata clause you referred to earlier is contingent on ESPN’s approval. Now, I know tar heel fans think they’re college sports royalty because of their basketball program, but in the big boy conference, football drives the bus. It is entirely possible that ESPN thinks adding North Carolina to the SEC will result in Tar Heel football being a bottom four team in the conference. Now, again, I’m not predicting that North Carolina would be a cellar dweller in the SEC… but it’s definitely in the cards. To end this, I will add that I think the Heels would consistently be a 7 win regular season team in the SEC… But if I’m right about the SEC needing approval from ESPN to add teams, then it doesn’t matter what I think, it only matters what ESPN thinks.

Referencing the earlier "to B1G" vid..., UNC would likely have higher net recruiting advantages over in-conference in the B1G (closer to talent, warmer weather) than in the SEC. Playing football in the SEC would likely yield even more and better talent, but the competition would be higher and would be getting similar talent. UNC would take longer to close the gap in the SEC than it would in the B1G. Nevertheless, the already existing iconic athletic brand would help in either destination. Outside of academic association and number of currently sponsored sports, the SEC is simply the better option for UNC. The SEC has a waxing rather than a stagnant population footprint, the SEC is more competitive in the sports it does sponsor, the matchups are more interesting whether it be the top brands or regional middle competitors, immediate synergies, and UNC and the SEC lift each other's weaknesses. In the bigger picture, my impression is that the B1G sees expansion as a necessary charity while the SEC see expansion as a mutual honor. In this final consolidation in which tentpoles and major bands are moving, the SEC's view is the accurate one.

Virginia native here so I know the mid Atlantic and their schools. UNC culturally fits the Big 10 better. If the SEC wants a Michigan like school with academics and culture then they should take UNC. I personally think NCST & VT are SEC while UVA & UNC are Big 10.

I think UNC would fit in either Big 10 or SEC but SEC seems like what they want. Especially if SEC brings in Kansas and Virginia which has been added. I could easily see SEC adding UNC / Duke / Virginia / Kansas

No way UVA goes to the SEC. They are snobby who don't want to be associated with the likes of Bama & Ole Miss to name a couple. They want to be with Michigan & Wisconsin.

Winning cures everything. A full commitment by the administration including resources and the right coach can be world changing to any athletic program.
