North Downs Way MTB | Following the Pilgrims Way

This week I'm in Kent, in the South East corner of the UK, riding along the North Downs Way. This section is also the ancient trail of the Pilgrims Way. I've a hastily planned route and a map. The weather is fantastic, if cold and the map was called on several occasions. This is part 1 of 2.

Going to do this route in June. Although slightly different. Maidstone down to Dover then up back through Canterbury and back to Maidstone

That pilgrims way/n downs way and trosley park are some of my fave local mtb haunts. A bit affter 4.10 and up to where you hit the road at 6.30 they've done clearing work and absolutely anhialated it. Looks like a flail tanks been through, just so someone can fence their goats in. I was there the other day. But great tracks round there. Also on the top of the ridge and heading back to cuxton.

@@themuddycyclist if you go up at 4.10 where the posts are it's a long steep offroad then go over a road and it's a pretty long gradual downhill track heading back toward holly hill area.

Where did you start from? Me and my dad have been trying to find this place back when i search it up I can’t see it

This was done 4 years ago so you can check back on my Strava (link is in my recent vids) to find the exact route but I started in Upper Halling and made my way along the Pilgrims Way & up onto the North Downs and back into Halling.

Looks a great route. Ever thought of plotting the route on Strava/RideWithGps etc at home and then using a Garmin/Wahoo etc to follow it rather than constantly getting the map out?

It was a great route in really good conditions but I am old school, I actually enjoy map reading and challenges it presents. There is something satisfying about navigating with just a map and compass ( when I don’t forget it! ), and making it home. You’ll never get lost with a Garmin, but times I’ve lost my way I’ve ended up discovering some interesting places.

@@themuddycyclist that's great if you enjoy it. I just find that constantly stopping and getting the map out can be a bit of a pain.

I am from Mauritius Island, not sure if you have about it, I do MTB too and I love watching rides like yours. I just subscribed. I love your trails where you ride. It is peaceful to watch too. By the way, why not use your smartphone or Garmin for routes?

Thank you for your kind comments, you are not the first person to ask why I don’t use a Garmin or smartphone. I guess I‘m old-fashioned and enjoy reading maps, & sometimes getting lost. Maps are a great way to discover your local area, you should try it.
