North East : Bait Fishing for Cod : Brave the Storm : Northumberland

In the video I meet up with my friend Steve from ‪@spartafishinguk‬ for a Cod fishing session on his home ground of Northumberland. Storm Babet put paid to our arrangements and we agreed to meet the following week thinking the storm would have passed. The rough weather was still in evidence as you'll see from the video.
Huge thanks to Steve ‪@spartafishinguk‬ for trying so hard to get me into the famous Northumberland Cod action. I'll be back again for another try, this time with heavier tackle and hopefully better weather (and luck).

That’s proper rough ground fishing, it’s something I use to do when I was a youngster. Would love to give it a go again. I’ll start making the leads now😂😂 Great effort and determination from Steve to try and put you on the fish👍

Now that's proper sea fishing. I've tried this a couple of times, but man is it hard work; so much lost gear! It is something I would like to learn more about though. Good effort; that's what it's all about.

It certainly was and a tad expensive on the tackle loss. But I really enjoyed the day and will have another crack at it in the future. Believe it or not I was mainly dry under that floatation suit 😄

Thanks for watching and your comment. I thought the same but seemed to get s lot of drag in the line. Braid (cheap stuff) seems better as a higher BS would avoid some of the breakages? Cheers Phil

For me , I found mono more abrasion resistant. 35lb straight through. Just depends on personal preference . tight lines @@anotherangleUK

The sea looked in good condition there pall you really need to go with a 7 Oz gripper in the kind of sea and ground and the braid is pretty much essential 70 to 100 lb 0.5 and strong rigs and hooks to even give you half a chance of getting your gear back well done for making the effort 👍👍

@anotherangleUK I would love to but l fished from Tyneouth to Eyemouth for over 60 years if do not know where go north of tyne you are wasting your time . Us all timers we know the marks and we keep that info to ourselves good luck amateurs
