Smashing video Phil as always mate. Well done on your turbo pb👍 stunning fish the turbot, for me it’s one of the jewels of uk salt water species. I don’t think your gonna beat Gordon’s long lining from the shore😂😂

Thanks Douglas. the other flat fish on my list to catch are Brill and Sole. Maybe next year when I'm back in Cornwall I'll try for those.

Lovely spot. You guys were literally the only ones on that beach all day! If that were down here it would be packed with people and rubbish!!!

Thanks Dave, the beaches are quite something. We are very lucky.

Great to break your duck with turbot and to see so many flounders caught. They’ve become a rare event down here on the Southampton water sadly… 🎣

Thanks. Always nice to get a new species, good they are here but would be nice to see if there are larger examples to be found. Same with the Plaice in an earlier video.

Fantastic, so glad you got your Turbot. It's my favourite fish to catch. That beach is way more peaceful than our Northumberland Beaches. One thing i have noticed in my years of Turbot fishing is, most of my best sessions and fish have come from a weedy beach. Food for thought. Tight lines .

That's a good point about the weed and places that hold food and smaller fry. Much of the weed on that beach is being washed down from a few miles further up the coast. I did wonder if some of the coarse fishing sinking feeder mono might be worth a try. Not sure what the maximum breaking strain they produce but the size of flattie on that beach isn't huge. Tight lines.

Shocked at the absolute beauty NE Scotland. Looked a perfect day, congratulations on your first turbot 👍🏼

When I relocated here a few years ago I was surprised just how many miles of these empty beaches there are. They do have another side to them when the North Sea powers in during the storms. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Phil

Great stuff Phil 👌🏻 we will have tae get back at the Turbot again 🎣 they are such a beutiful fish and a privilege to hold one then see it swim away from your hand and disappear so quickly back to where it belongs
@anotherangleUK5 ай бұрын
Thanks, I'd love to see if there are Turbot nearer dinner plate size in those parts but every fish is a privilege to catch and release. It was great to see every fish we caught that day returned to fight another day. Phil

Away to try for my first turbot tomorrow in Morayshire! I normally fish the West coast but first time trying over this way
@anotherangleUK4 ай бұрын
Good luck! I hope the forecast strong winds don't ruin your trip over to Morayshire - it's Southerly so maybe you'll get some shelter. Tight lines.

I was right, knew itd be a turbot!
@anotherangleUK5 ай бұрын
That's right Ben, you were correct. Amazing fish the way they disappear into the sand as you release them. Experts in camouflaging themselves. Thanks for watch, hope you are enjoying the mix of content on the channel.

Lovely beach, especially when the sun comes out. How come you catch better fish when Gordon is about? 😂
@anotherangleUK5 ай бұрын
Bit of an unofficial competition always seems to happen - that's why Gordon fished four rods each with at least five hook traces. Maybe it's a habit from his commercial fishing days. 😁

Really interesting video. May I ask what bait were the Turbot taking?
@anotherangleUK5 ай бұрын
Hi, glad you found the video interesting. I was using small Mackerel strips which accounted for the Turbot. It's hard to say if they took a static bait or grabbed it as we slowly wound lines in. Give it a try if you are targeting Turbot.

Have you ever tried sandend
@bobbycrispy54595 ай бұрын
To add to that last comment, I was once told bye some local fishermen that the other side of Cullen beach is great for turbot
@anotherangleUK5 ай бұрын
I've not been to Sandend. I've fished to harbour wall at Portknockie a few times.
@anotherangleUK5 ай бұрын
That are always looks very fishy. Gordon tried it in one of his videos but didn't get a bite at all. Would be worth another try though.
