It depends which locos you are reffering to. Many are made by either Bachmann or Hornby, if you mean the loco which the episode is based around, 60500 'EDWARD THOMPSON' it's only available as a kit, which i had built for me. Cheers Tom

Yet another amazing episode, Doctor! The history behind the Thompson pacifics was interesting. I have two questions: In terms of handling, how does a kit-built locomotive feel compared to a Ready-to-Run one? Did the Robinson 8Ks/O4s ever ran on the region this layout was based on?

Thanks for the feedback loriYagami288 1. This particular kit model looks stunning and the detail is great. The problem I had at first was the bogies would keep derailing, and meant alot of time with me trying to sort them out. This is probably more to do with the large gap on THompson pacifics between the bogies and driving wheels. 2. My large station is based on York although given a fictional name, so my layout is part of the sourthern end of the North Eastern Region, so most likely

@HughTheB12 Yep you could easily you do that.....For removing the existing transfers, I would suggest using mircosol.....small bottle with red writing on it (have a look on ebay) put some on with a cotton wool bud over the old transfer, leave for 5 minutues, then with a cotton wool bud with mircoso on it, start rubbing, the great thing with mircosol is it brings the transfer off, but doesn't effect the paint like T-CUT and others do.

The A2/1s and /3s are pretty good in my opinion. I mean, the former was just four of an already numerous class, and the latter was honestly the best of a flawed design. It's just the A2/2s and the lone A1/1 that makes my head heat up. The A1/1 I hate for obvious reasons, but the A2/2 was a case of stupidity on Thompson's point. Despite their own flaws, the P2s were the stronger passenger engines in Britain. Thompson could've at least kept the 2-8-2 wheel arrangement instead of converting them into Pacifics!

@toyreviews3214

Piggynice -06 Thompson did not, they were rebuilt due to their low availability rate during the war (P2’s) And Great Northern had the lowest availability rate of the A10’s (A1’s) and was not chosen by Thompson himself to rebuild but was chosen due it being the most worn out out of the A10’s.

@piggynice-06 4 жыл бұрын
@@toyreviews3214 actually, believe it or not, they did. They often argued with each other. Because of this reason, people believe that this was the reason why Thompson rebuilt so many Gresley designs. (Examples: the first Gresley Pacific, Great Northern, the P2s, and last four V2s. Yes it is true that they had low availability rates during WW2.

Thompson was maligned largely because he took "Great Northern," Gresley's pioneer Pacific as a guinea-pig for his own design. It was just unfortunate that "Great Northern" was in Doncaster works at the time. His rebuilding schemes from 3-cylinder to 2-cylinder was aborted by British Railways in 1949, and it was never conclusively proved whether the rebuilds were an improvement or not, or whether they were more economical. They were probably somewhat easier to maintain. The one real failure was the rebuilt D49, 62768, and once it sustained minor accident damage, no hesitation was made to withdraw it.
