Great video. I've visited Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and Pinellas, as well as the Panhandle. You are right in saying that although the beaches are beautiful in the Panhandle and even AL on the other side, there's a very noticeable difference in the vibe and something definitely feels like it's missing compared to the other areas. I prefer the tropical or even the subtropical vibes of the Central region that you just don't get in the North.

Tbh I see Central Florida as it's own thing separate from south and north Florida. Palm Bay to Ormond Beach on the east coast and the Tampa/St Pete metro area up through The Villages and Citrus County on the west coast is what I consider central Florida. I don't really feel like I'm in North Florida until I get into Ocala or St Augustine. Regardless, all 3 area's are extremely unique to the country. In My opinion, I consider Central Florida the best region of the state. Great video!

Tbh I consider Ocala to be an intermediate zone between Central and North Florida. The infrastructure and the way homes are built are in-line with Central Florida, but the culture is very much North Florida. I think Flagler County, or the Palm Coast area, is also an intermediate zone between the two regions
@mcamman6193
@mcamman6193 Жыл бұрын
@@figmentofurimagination457 Ocala is a contrast area. Except for Gainesville and maybe Lake City, I think it's because there's just no real growth or development in that area of the state north of Ocala. The Suwannee river region is still old Florida. I notice the difference right away leaving Ocala on US-27 and heading over to Williston. Farmland, trailer homes, big acres, agriculture, southern culture, and not many palms. Even Gainesville has a much different feel compared to south and Central Florida. The homes and streets are structured differently and there's also a much bigger lack of Palm trees. You might as well be in the panhandle or in Georgia. The same thing can be said for Flagler County on the east coast being a contrast area. On one hand, Palm Coast doesn't feel outta place in central Florida town but Bunnell could feel like a town from Georgia. I believe the real Florida everyone thinks about begins in Daytona.
@mcamman6193
@mcamman6193 Жыл бұрын
@@figmentofurimagination457 I'd also say South and Central Florida are separated by how tropical vs Subtropical the area looks. That's why I would put South Florida truly starting in Vero Beach on the Atlantic and Bradenton on the Gulf. The increase of tropical palms and landscaping makes parts of Vero feel a LOT like South Florida than nearby Melbourne, which largely has a subtropical climate similar to Orlando and the rest of Central Florida.

Climate wise there are three or four zones to consider. (Having traveled and resided in Florida some 30 years.) in winter there can be a 40 degree difference between north and south Florida temperatures. Also, it may be noted that the “Frost Line” at Palm Beach divides north and south Florida re citrus and other vegetation. (Certain tropical plants do not thrive north of Palm Beach. Must be in south Florida to truly enjoy subtropical climate year round.

I was born in Winter Park and raised in Sanford in the first half of my childhood, I was then raised in Naples until my early adulthood, I lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with my family for a year and a half, and now I live in Charlotte Harbor right between Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. I got much love for my home-state, but god is it hard to define it culturally, I can say southeast Florida, specifically the Miami Metropolis is clearly Latin Caribbean culturally, and that North Florida from the Jacksonville Metropolis to the Pensacola Metropolis is Southern, but Central Florida and Southwest Florida are hardest to explain. The Tampa and Orlando Metropolises are two of the biggest Metros not just in Florida, but also the entire country, but they are not as well defined culturally like for example the Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Nashville metropolises etc. When I think of greater Orlando, all that comes to mind is Disney and Universal Studios, whereas with Tampa, besides the Tampa Bay sports teams, nothing comes to mind. It may be appropriate to label the Tampa Metropolis a hybrid between Southern and Latin Caribbean cultures. The Villages is basically just one big ageist Gerontocracy, and so was Southwest Florida until recently. The Naples and Cape Coral Metropolises will probably become one Metropolis soon, and I consider them Miami colonies, whereas the Punta Gorda Metropolis probably will become part of the North Port Metropolis. Honestly if I were to try and label Florida culturally, although I rather us identify as simultaneously Southern and Latin Caribbean, we have different sub-regions. Southeast Florida is clearly the domain of the Latin Caribbean Miami Metropolis, North Florida from the Atlantic to the Panhandle, as well as a lot of the interior of the State is part of the South, Southwest Florida seems to be a hybrid Midwestern Snowbird and Latin Caribbean region, and Central Florida despite being the Center of one of the biggest if not the biggest tourism centers of the world appears to be a hybrid of all of these groups, the Caribbeaners (Latin and Non-Latin), Midwestern Snowbirds & Retirees, and the Southern Whites and African-Americans. But to go back on what you said about Orlando being the Capital of Florida, I honestly disagree, I think Lakeland should be, not to mention the Lakeland Metropolis (Polk County) is almost at a million people which would then designate it a large Metro. The reason I say Lakeland is so we don't piss off Orlando or Tampa, since Lakeland is in the center :D.

The differences are quite astonishing, I have family that goes to visits Disneyland or contacts me anytime their is a hurricane asking if I am alright and I have to keep explaining I am more than 7 hours away in NW Florida. People have this weird perception that Florida is a tiny state or a lack of comprehension how different it is on the region. My wife is Colombian and imagine the shock the very first time she landed in Pensacola and I took her to Defuniak Springs, Jay, Century. She thought she was in Alabama and was surprised the lack of Hispanic culture, at the same time she learned of the true historical Spanish ties to these areas as this was all part of the Spanish empire and N Florida had historical architecture dating back to colonial days while S Florida was still a bog. N Florida especially the panhandle has or had a strong brick industry due to high amounts of clay, higher elevation, I think the highest peak is 345 feet in Britton Hill, a large lumber industry due to the thick woods and a strong agriculture with lots of farms. This is the "old" Florida.

I also get that you touched on Central FL and explained why you left it out, but I'm still not sure why it's so difficult. FL is technically 4 states in 1. Pensacola to Palm Coast is North Florida. Daytona/Ocala to Sarasota is Central Florida, and Palm Beach/Ft Meyers to Miami is South Florida. The Keys are an island to their own, since they live in their own world. Boom the 4 states of FL. When I used to live in FL, my favorite city to live in was Orlando. Never dull, right amount of pace, and people from all over. I can tell who is from here and who is not when I tell them I was born in central FL and they say things like "Oh, so you're from Georgia". Imagine my surprise when they are always from New York or PA/NJ.

@@Phillydreaming Central FL is the real Florida IMO. What I call Central FL is from Osceola/Polk county to the south to Flagler county to the far north. You will find prairies in Central FL and the Florida Black Bear resides there. Disney World, Universal Studios and Epcot are in Orlando. Daytona International Speedway in Daytona. The space coast where NASA was in Cape Canaveral. The beach is accessible year round. And then there is Tampa. Nothing like South FL. Nothing like North FL.

I classify central Florida as everything from Brevard/Hillsborough/Polk/Osceola/Pinellas counties to the south to pretty much everything leading up to State Road 40 to the north. Central Florida is the most definitive section of Florida to me. Especially with Tampa and Orlando, you have just about a mix of everything that defines what the state is. Once you get north of Palm Coast and Ocala, you begin to feel like you're close to Georgia.

Yo south Florida has like 5-6 cities consistently on the 100 most dangerous cities list though and north Florida has maybe 1 or 2.

You're joking right? Fernandina Beach is right near Georgia. It literally gets 40 degrees colder than Miami does at times in the winter. Like it could be 28 in Fernandina Beach and 68 in Miami at the same time depending on how strong the cold front is.

Not if you're in the Mountains. I visited TN one time in June and was surprised how temperate the weather was in the mountains.

Florida was “discovered” by the Governor of Puerto Rico, Juan Ponce de Leon back in 1513. So it looks like FL is returning slowly to the original owners

Great video. We moved to Naples from Costa Rica in 1990. Man now I'm in my 40s and I'm starting to miss that smaller town feel Naples had. The opposite to that is that my small condo I purchased in 2000 for $50,000 is now selling for $600,000😂😂😊
