There was a time in my life in my 20's I worked the N Nehalem almost 7 days a week fishing client. Today all Oregon fisheries have been mismanaged. N Nehalem was absolute packed with steelhead and so many in the runs as you float through it would be steelhead scattering in all directions now today you are lucky to see a steelhead as you float the river.

Yup. Really sad to see the runs diminished almost to the point that maybe there are more interesting things to pursue. Back in the 80s there were tons of fish, and few people. Only took 40 years to flip flop. A blink of an eye in ecological time.

They just stopped planting fish. It's time to change that ODFW

Good to see you put life jackets on. I couldn’t imagine trying to get out of the river with waders full of water if you ripped over.

what classification of rapids would you consider the tank hole, jack , queen and king? i live locally to this river and wanting to get into rafting and rowing.great Videos

I don't know if they have an official classification but I would call them at least a class 3 to 3+. I'm certain at high water they become class 4 since all of them are significant drops and Jack, Queen and King are so close together and there is a higher risk for a very long swim. Oh yeah, and watch out for downed trees blocking the entire river. There were 2 of those last December. Stay safe!

We didn't have any hook ups that day. Spotted only a couple of chromers in the lower section.

Never knew that was called the talk hole we always called it the garbage hole from all the trash people dump at the top of the trail

The small steam like the N fork Nehalem I fish in Washington is the Elochomen at Cathlamet Washington. Then I do the Grays R and Naselle R I do jet boat on the Cowlitz - jet boat North fork and drift boat East fork Lewis Rivers
