I seem to see these videos almost always of children performing. Its wonderful and impressive, but kinda of odd too. It makes me wonder why.
@davidhart90074 жыл бұрын
Is it really any more odd than young people being groomed to do well in the Olympics for swimming and gymnastics? The child spends all their time working on perfecting gymnastic moves rather than being allowed to play with other children in a normal setting. Yet in the west, we glorify that kind of individual.
@amyg41154 жыл бұрын
David Hart same without figure skaters-Alina Zagitova won gold in Pyeongchang 2018 at 15 years old, and she has openly talked about having no time for friends outside of training 6-8 hours a day on hand off the ice (she also has to train in ballet and contemporary dance and choreography, flexibility/stretching, weight, cardio, strengthening, conditioning and endurance training in the gym) on top of homeschool tutor sessions and a full load of schoolwork that she, like other skaters, is expected to keep up on to meet the same requirement as those in regular schools, and earn high marks and good grades, frequent travel abroad for competitions in different time zones, significant time away from family (living 16 hours away from her parents and sister with her grandmother to train, only one day off a week and a yearly vacation (minus short holiday trips), harsh coaching and being pitted against training mates that are really the only available peers to form friendships with, but the pressure and competition makes true friendships difficult, especially after feeling betrayed by someone she admired, respected, looked up to and cared about because of her rise in the ranks. She has said that her closest friend and support comes from her beloved pets (family is a given obviously) which she collapses into sleep snuggled up with after long, physically demanding and exhausting days. What children/teens in ballet and other dance, figure skating, gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics, other sport, and performing arts experience with such massive physical loads on their bodies and restrictions placed on their weight, diets, appearance and psychological/mental health effects, injury and long term physical and psychological consequences is beyond what most adults could handle. This is not unique to just North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China or Russia, but all over the world. Years of training, practice, dedication, successes and failures, sacrifice, injury and physical pain, pressure and high expectations all for 2 minutes and 40 second short program and 4 minutes and 30 second long programs in figure skating (and the short performance times in relation to the hours of training in other sports) takes an incredible toll and has consequences, like Illness, injuries, eating disorder, anxiety, depression, stress, self esteem, and nutritional deficiencies that are universal. it needs to truly be the desire, passion, and commitment of the child, not the unfulfilled dreams of the parents/family, or the expectations and pressure from their country, and they need to be paced and have their physical health and development and mental health and wellness made top priority rather than medals and results at the expense of the athlete’s health, physical growth and development, nutrition and education so that when their sports career is done, they have the tools and foundations and mental strength and stability to succeed in life after competition, and not leave sport and enter the rest of their lives and futures physically broken, emotionally spent, and psychologically unwell, overall exhausted and unsure of what to do or where to go next.

It took me until I was an adult to start to “dance” while playing. I’d like to see how these kids are taught to play/how they conduct practising. Does anyone know how old they were in this? I’m thinking around 12. All that said the guitar one was way too uncanny valley with the “dancing”. Doesnt make the playing any less impressive.

Toxic words against a very expensive right that doesn't exixt in the rich countries. The right of all prodigy child to be accomplish.included as musician. In the false democracy, it's at better the teacher of music who asks to the students to buy the instrument for all, that is the cheapest flute and therefore an ininteresting toy. In the DPRK it's the massive schools full of all the musical instruments and the teachers. Everybody know that's not possible to force someone to be mathemacian, physician, musician or soccer. It's only a question of talent and motivation.

There are many children in our western world who do exactly the same, willingly or pushed by their parents or society. Nothing different. Let's enjoy their skill......Anyone who has been in the far east for work, has realized that they are different from us westerners: more determined, more skilled, more disciplined, less prone to talk or to short paths. One word: Upright. So respect those children and their culture.

@@totzinfo Family oriented ... you mean forcing members of a family to inform on one another to the regime? Punishing three generations of a family for the political crimes of one person? Widespread malnutrition, high infant mortality, forced abortions...? Sounds like a family oriented paradise to me.

@@mariaobrien284 That's no kind of happiness I'd ever want a child to experience. You're seeing children trained to perform with unnatural, dare I say robotic precision. Imagine what those children would've been put through to achieve that. Not only that, but think of what they'd have had to endure to get their smiles just right. What you're seeing is not how normal children behave.

"You won't see this in Western media" lmao what? News reports are always showing clips like this when discussing NK, especially if it involves a reporter being given the standard Pyongyang tour. Honestly, one well-rehearsed musical number and a couple of smiling kids and some of you sound ready to dedicate your lives to the Supreme Leader...
