I fail to see the logic behind lying to a soldier who you've been telling about going to war and preparing them only to lie when the time comes and say it's a training exercise. What good would that do anyone? Either the soldier is lying for sympathy or something is getting mistranslated.

North Korea is a country where the leader says anything they want with no repercussions. So they lie as naturally as the breath.

Or because nothing in North Korea makes implicit sense. The Juche ideology has massive internal flaws which cannot be upheld if you are truthful. Introduce a single truth and questions bubble up that demand more truths. Therefore lying constantly in ALL situations is the only way.

North Korea has been lying to its citizens for decades about pretty much everything - that their country is the envy of the world and their military is the strongest. In that context, misleading them that it’s just an exercise is a minor lie.

I mean as much as I would like to think it's a lie, Russia also did this when they initally invaded Ukraine so it wouldn't be that far a stretch.

@ why do you think free and open societies just happen spontaneously without a great deal of effort, blood and sacrifice? what do you think, if you took every single person in Sweden and swapped them with every North Korean so that Sweden was inhabited entirely by koreans and vice versa, do you think sweden would still be free? Why do you think there are differences in cultural achievement? Genetically we are not the same, they are not like us, or their societies would look like ours It's that simple, and we are not responsible for saving them nor is anyone other than themselves capable of achieving freedom for themselves Would you not throw your own self upon the gears? Apparently not, you are content blaming others for your circumstance? Being unable to be realistic about these realities is toxic, it means you don't even understand your own responsibilities to your own society, nor do you have any appreciation for what it took for you even to be able to get online and be ignorant of all that is transpired before you
