North Korean Women Sing We Will Go To Mount Paektu

On our way back from the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) to Pyongyang we stopped of for a break at the Sohung Rest House. We were only a small group of about nine people and one of our guides had heard that very occasionally the staff who were all women would sing a song if asked. We asked if they would sing a song and they agreed as we were a very small group and there was nobody else around.
One of the women reached into her bag for an accordion and the other four stood in front of us and they all performed this beautiful new North Korean song called We Will Go To Mount Paektu which was only released last year. Within about a minute or two of them finishing the song a large bus full of Chinese visitors arrived and the women went back about their work as if nothing had happened.

Perhaps its not as glorious as the version sang by the Moranbong band, or the one heard at the "Great Party, Rosy Korea" concert, but its so simple that I'd say its much better than any of those actually, their voices are really nice and they look really cute! Also I have respect for anyone that can play the accordion because it sure looks very complicated.

It's a beautiful song. This version is the best I've heard. North Korea's communist anthems may have silly texts and a sad origin, but damn what fine music they create! I'm so fascinated with their music!
