Brah I grew up in north shore MA But lived Hawai’i for the last 15 years I make my own beefs but it’s nothing like being home and going around just grabbing double beefs and jr beefs Just slamming em ! You gotta check it out plus the steak and cheese game is great at any Greek or Italian spots

My father got his start in the restaurant biz when he opened the Bull Pen in North Reading Ma in 1975. It was your traditional N.S. roast beef sandwich shop. When the blizzard of 78 hit, he drove our Honda 3 wheeler to work and slept there for a week being the only place open for miles to serve the plow truck drivers and public safety personnel.

Growing up eating Kelly’s as a kid and then Bill and Bobs, Simard’s, Brothers and Nick’s just to name a few spots, I never understood why people outside of the north shore of MA didn’t do this and also why this sandwich never shows up on national food shows highlighting regional dishes. They are honestly indescribable. Thanks for the video!

I enjoyed your video. I look forward to trying these recommendations next time I'm in the Boston area. Have you had a chance to try other regional beef sandwiches. Like the Chicago Italian beef or the Beef on weck from Buffalo?

Both! I’m from Rochester/Buffalo and have had a few Italian beefs here and in Chicago. This is still my clear favorite.

I live in North Andover so Bella’s is a regular spot for me. Londi’s is very good and I need to try Pete’s. But if come up this way again I highly recommend Anthony’s in Tewksbury. A friend introduced me a year & ago half ago. They don’t get enough recognition because they are outstanding

@@PapiEats don’t go to Londis in North Andover. They’ve been sold and new management has destroyed their roast beefs. The worst roast beef hands in 50 years. They grind not slice the beef that has no flavor. Onion roll was thin as toast. Absolutely horrible

Thanks for the vid. I live in North Andover. The original I remember in the 1970's was Riley's Roast Beef on Rt 114 in Lawrence. From there, some form of it either moved or something like that to Harrison's in North Andover. Harrison's is now under new ownership and their sandwich is no longer. Kelly's Roast Beef on Route 99 in Saugus was pretty good but in my opinion, never as good as Harrison's. Bill and Bob's in Salem, MA was also good. Bella's and Londi's are very good. Since I don't get to eat these much any longer, due to age and diet, I do often crave the sandwich and will cave to my desires with both of these establishments nearby. Thanks again for the video.

Arby's red ranch sauce is really just Catalina salad dressing. Papi's roast beef sandwiches had more of a BBQ sauce on them!

I always order the junior size. I think the ratio of the ingredients work better in smaller portions. But granted, I always order 2 juniors since they are so good.

Ah man I wish. This stuff blows away boars head meat. There’s a shop called Noreast Eats and Treats or something on E Independence that makes one of these and they’ve nailed everything but the beef itself. Still pretty amazing, I highly recommend it!

I knew it was a mistake to watch it before I ate. I found something at Walmart on clearance for $1, that I never remember ever seeing in that aisle before. It was called Fillo's Walking Tamales. I got the Bean Salsa Verde, but they also had a Habanero one. You can eat it right out of the package or heat it up. You pull the tab on the foil package and squeeze it up like a push-pop. It's so flat like someone sat on it. It already didn't look promising, but watching this, oi. Those beef's look so f-ing good. I'm almost tempted to go to Hardee's and grab some of theirs. I'd do Arby's but this Tamale pack is already sad enough, so I don't need to punish myself further.

Just went londi’s. $14.25 for the super beef . Well done beef, as in over cooked. It was dry by the time I got towards the end. I could tell it was quality and tender, so maybe I got an end piece that should have been discarded. I might try it again some day to see if I get quality beef. Pete’s is top notch. I would need a beef from Londi’s that wasn’t torched to truly compare, but we are talking D+ vs A- beef as of now.

Just tried Bella’s. Really good sandwich, everything this guy said. The time I went to Londi’s it was over cooked, so I can’t make a true comparison until I have a better cooked one from there. Bella’s and Pete’s are great. Modern is better but not wait in line for 90 minutes better. 20-25 minutes tops.

you can order any beef on an onion roll, you just say, i would like a junior 3 way on an onion roll. hope this helps

Tried londi’s, it was ok. Tried bella’s, it was ok. Both gave me diarrhea. Bella’s was dirty, kinda shocked. I just tried Nico’s in amesbury, it was terrific. The flavor and tenderness reminded me of the old Kelly’s.

No wonder he thought the last one was the best. He waited two hours for it. That is ridiculous. It is just a friggin roast beef sandwich. Can get them anywhere and they all use the same ingredients. I live in the town where modern butcher is and grew up on the Northshore and other than Kelley’s roast beef (which sucks), just about anywhere else that makes them does a good job and they taste the same. 😂😂. No way am I standing outside like a moron for two hours for a roast beef three way. 😂😂😂.

Let me make this clear. As someone who grew up in the North Shore my entire life. If you go to Kelly’s roast beef and order a beef, you are fucking crazy. Their roast beef is absolutely awful. You go there for burgers and fried seafood. In my opinion, Pete’s in Woburn is the best beef followed by Bella’s and Londis as a close #2 and #3.

I watched one of his videos that was a year old reviewing five roast beef places in the greater Boston area. He had Jamie's Roast Beef of Peabody as number one so I went and tried it a couple of days ago. Ya know it was good and I really have nothing to base it off of except for the roast beef subs at Market Basket grocery stores. I'll tell ya I liked it but it didn't wow me, it was a three way traditional with a onion bun. I dunno the cuts of the roast beef are awesome but the flavor as a three way just didn't have saying that this is worth $11 bucks. For $5 bucks I can just get a Market Basket large roast beef sub and save $6 and for me personally I don't care much for James River sauce but I do like my lettuce and tomato and also I think the Semolina wheat based sub roll made fresh is better than that onion bun. Just an opinion based on value and how I spend my money. But hey at least I tried a three way based on some expert experiences.
