I don't have an apu unit they cost to much money.... what I did drivers that read the comments...I bought a predator 3500 quiet generator inverter at harbor freight put insurance on it, put it in the back outside the cab with a chain and lock plugged it into the plug port on the bottom of the drivers door to power on all the plugs in the truck. Then I bought a ac unit and a small little heater and plug them in depending on the weather and a small lil 40 buck heater kept me warm in -3 weather last year I just close the front curtains not the back and place it between the 2 front seats.. and the ac unit I bought a portable 8000 btu unit at wal mart and that keeps me real cool in the summer just turn off the eco mode on the generator and it'll pick up that ac unit real good plus that generator last you 10 hrs on non eco mode and 12 with eco mode...I basically engineered my own apu for 1200 bucks

Those trucks are the ultimate set up! I drive a 2022 Freightliner (with 475 hp DD15, 12 spd DT12, 2.64 ratio, with diesel apu) governed at 71 mph) and I getting 8.2 mpg at 44 mph average speed with 450:35 hour on per 19,549.7 miles (average 24000 lbs, and runnin all 11 western states.. I've got 9.0 mpg at 47 mph average with 45:37 hrs on within the last 2,123.8 miles.. these cascadias are king of the road bro! I don't use cruise control.

Same discussion I had with myself buying a vehicle for Uber. My Sienna hybrid got twice the MPG of anything used. EVERYBODY said get used! When vehicle prices thru the roof, bought new and just grind away. Immaculate kept, serviced, babied equals $$$. Could never bring myself to give away 30K miles of revenue at $1.50 to save a few dollars on the front end. I can see a CDL and a truck in my future. Your videos are helpful. Not to mention, if I am living in the vehicle there is a comfort and enjoyment aspect. Don't want somebody's stink in my truck.

Excellent content, great/valuable info to help teach us how to not only save money but how to make more money (saving equals making). I can imagine that this fuel saving (idling and acceleration habits) will also cut down on the wear and tare of the trucks, which would also save us repair cost. Great info, great video👍🏿

It's funny to see trucking companies brag about fuel consumption savings by limiting the trucks speed. What they fail to mention...here's some maths for you. Distance of 75 miles Fuel/gallon $4.75 $0.60/mile (driver pay).... 75mph @ 7mpg=10.8gallons=$51.30 for fuel (1hour) 64mph @ 8.2mpg = 9.24gallons (75miles) = $43.89 (1 hour 10 minutes) So the company saves $7.41 on 75 miles, but the driver loses out on $6.60/hour pay. So it could be said that nearly every penny the company "saves" is money out of the drivers paycheck..but hey, who cares right? Also, the lower the fuel costs and the amount 'saved' is even less, but the amount lost by the driver remains the same.

Hi I would like to mention an other factor for fuel economy is the quality of the fuel that you put in the tank over here in uk if we go to large bunker station the fuel generally doesn’t have many additives in it so we started an experiment and started to use BP Or Shell derv we have achieved about.5 of a mile to the galon and the truck runs a lot better

It can be very difficult for many individuals to purchased a unit without the bias of the look/layout of the bunk. I myself am a efficiency/reliability chaser. I want the most fuel efficient truck with the most reliability. Have to say from the newest stock truck, the t680, Pete 579, cascadia, Volvo (1-5 in rating) look great. However they look, they still have to make the most $ to be profitable. When are you going to get your guys some super sleeper for you otr drivers? lol jk you wouldn’t do that (o.op. Dream machine)

Those long hood Peterbilts and Kenworth are more reliable and last longer compared to those spaceships. To say there garbage just because they save less fuel is ridiculous. I got a 2015 389 Peterbilt ran it in the oilfields dirt roads you name it. Hauling 90k lbs of crude oil, now have it running regional doing flatbed still running like a champ. Meanwhile all i see are Freightliners at my local diesel shop. As a owner operator those are the trucks to have. But it makes sense that big carriers have them space ships to save fuel.

Also tell me the last time you saw a 389 on the side of the road taking a nap. These aero trucks are not stable and they're killing drivers but hey at least the fleet owners are making more money!! This is blood money IDC what anyone says. I drive a 2022 389 now. I'll never go back to an automatic transmission aero death machine. Even the 579 and t680 is respectable. The cascadia is a rolling death trap.

If you keep 11000 pounds on the front axle stability is not an issue, getting used to the light steering is an issue...that is easily overcome. I would rather drive a 9.3 mpg Cascadia than a small cab large car 6.5 mpg Pete.

The battery powered APU isn't enough to keep the truck cool on hot days. I drove a 2023 cascadia from the beginning of April to the end of June this year and down in Arizona or if I was taking a break during the day, I absolutely had to use opti idle and my idle percentage was higher. The reason these aero trucks are garbage is because they hit bumps too hard. I like my 389 because the ride is much better with the longer wheel base and front set axle. The Apu's have maintenance costs on top of the up front cost. Plus if they break, you're back to idling until it's fixed. Running 64 mph all day is making your drivers spend more of their time to run the same miles. I'm so glad I stopped working for these fleets run like guys such as Ronen. I'm sure he's making good money, in fact I have no doubt he is. But I've driven 389, cascadia, t680, 579. Automatic, 13 spd, 10 spd, and an 18 speed (which I'm in currently), and the long nose truck without the rpm/speed governed is the safest way to operate a truck. My boss trusts me to help him save money in exchange for the freedom and it's worth it.

Respectfully I will have to disagree with you on the Freighliner topic. Don't get me wrong, it must be the most popular truck out there, nothing wrong with it. However, the main reason as to why it maybe more fuel efficient has to do more with the weight of the unit. You know, a freightshaker didn't get the nick name for being particularly smooth. It may be economical and all but much lighter which during big crosswinds with rain, snow, you'll be hanging into with white knuckles. No criticizing your beand of choice, everyone likes what they like..If I was given the choice I'll go with the KW with a Cummins, but it'll need to have an 18 speed manual, more flexibility and more control, specially with heavy loads and running out west..just saying. Overall I like your channel, and all you do to help out all drivers out here.. Respectfully "Reap"

I think? At any rate, that means that whoever dispatches them understands they will be traveling slower to shippers. Deliveries won't be as fast. So does that hurt the company's bottom line overall?

The DD15 is a dog and gutless when pulling uphill. It may be able to get decent fuel economy for a 15 litre engine but boy the power band is awfully disappointing.

I do 45-55 maxed out weight depending on my entrance speed up 6% grades anything under 35k and the truck barely slows down so I’m happy DD15 550hp 2050ftlbs gen5 carb22 engine 2.85 rears 8.5-9.2mpg if the road is flat forget about it I can cruise at 72 and only spin 1200rpm he right a setup 2023 Cascadia is the best truck right now for OTR not even close.

@@Genkevintaylor21225 Depends on what model year DD15 (Uncle Truckus) probably is referring to the later DD15s with the twin scroll turbo and he is right that engine has a very narrow power curve 505 hp @ 1630 rpm and only has 350 hp @ 1900. Sounds like you have the older version DD15 with variable geometry turbo which has a wider power curve. To get what you have today you need to get the DD16 which has the wider power curve.

I have driven that truck with that engine extensively to include over challenging passes such as Monteagle with 80k gross and it was disappointing if not borderline dangerous at times due to the rate of how quickly it slows down and impedes traffic as a result.

The lane assist sensor screams at me even when I have to use it, like warning people of my intent to merge lanes. The truck tries to do all the thinking for me for when to slow down for sadety, which sucks because the truck is a idiot and often makes the wrong calls. And as of right now. Me and my co-driver are sitting in a tow-truck getting a ride to the location that our truck with 10k miles on its is being towed to. This is the 5th truck of driving for more than a week since iv been driving. It the first truck with less than 300k that iv driven, and it is by far the worst truck iv ever driven and I thought this before it broke down.

I get 12 hrs out of mine in eco mode and it’s cold as shit in my bunk and I was parked in the desert as long as u got good batteries and when u do have to replace em get the best u good when u have the epu in a new truck it’s mandatory that u get the upgraded insulation package from the factory they won’t let you order one and not the other and trust me it works it cut down on the noise from outside and vibration also the temperature is stable in the sleeper the divider curtains are thick as hell

The battery APU is much more reliable than the TriPac Diesel as well. Even when the batteries need to be replaced after a couple years, you can do that at any shop; no waiting for a Thermo King to have an open slot to work on the generator.

A company running a DPG of $15 - $20 versus a company with DPG $10- $15 would have a fuel cost 100% lower! What's your overall overhead? Do you need maximum MPG to support it on the backs of treating your drivers to cookie cutter trucks, freight & driving practices? MPG must never be the only consideration at the cost of DPG Companies running trucks that you criticize have this figured out.

Most loads don pay well enough to run hard and at the end of the day you'll will almost never see the day we get paid based on how many loads you ran in a month.. the numbers he focus on are obviously tailored to his operation, but the more efficient burnage of fuel is always top dog bro, no matter the pay per load

I will agree with you where cookie cutter fleets and freight are concerned it's what they focus on due to slim margins.

😂😂facts. My brother work for your company Ronan I can tell you exactly what he's experiencing. He doesn't run mountains 99% Toronto down Indiana, midwest area and back to Calgary. Then Calgary south to midwest and back to Calgary or Toronto and such. Never pulled heavy weights running van. Mostly he told me 24000 lbs at the most so he's experience 8mpg with no head winds otherwise 6 or less with headwinds with 2020 cascadia. And he's being experience break down constantly with the truck three weeks in a row. My 2007 columbia gets 7.8mpg with egr module delete run same route as my brother run for your company Ronan. Not much to brag at least my truck doesn't break down like your new cascadia...and most importantly NO MONTHLY PAYMENTS. Try to actually compare apples to apples like running mountains then have the fuel economy then we'll see the real result. Otherwise is just false comparison. But watching your few video knowing you're only focus on fuel economy only and forget to mentioned any other cost is really not telling the whole entire story. Very biased 😂😂😂

I would not drive for this guy. I understand why he is doing the things he’s doing, but governing a truck at 64 mph is just stupid. It becomes dangerous to not be able to keep up with the flow of traffic. I worked for a company that governed their trucks at 60 back in the 90’s. If you drive with the idea to turn the cruise off so someone can pass you, then you are not being as fuel efficient as you can be. Also, I guarantee you that I can get better fuel milage out of a vehicle with a manual transmission. You have to keep your foot out of it going through the gear box. It allows you to shift at the the most efficient rpm’s.

Still the cascadia is a complete heap of junk. Who knows what else they cut corners to cheap out on quality. Especially after the covid shutdown on parts manufacturers. I have a 2019/20 and after 250k it rides like garbage from the cheap suspension and steering components, the copied airlines storage compartment struts have no gas left, constant acm codes, brake lights stick on, wiring harnesses chaff from all the shaking (they aren't modular harnesses, its one huge one throughout the frame), cab mounts worn out, the window switch broke. If all this happened to a 2020 model a 2023 will be 3x worse. The trucks are junk compared to the last gen 2017.

You are spot on ! I bought fuel using mudflap yesterday and saved 160 bucks in Missouri. 3.90 at Casey's:). Fuel report with my 07 387 pete. C15 CAT DELETED, SINGLE TURBO . Pittsburgh power muffler . 550 hp 2050 tq. Driving average 60 mph . Using my foot and keeping my boost down she's getting 8.74 mpg. But if I use cruise and drive 70 mph I'm down to 6.8 . Huge difference. Last winter 60 mph 8.48 . Pretty good for a C15 meow meow

The active Cruise control on my Mercedes’ Actros ,which basically is a Freightliner 🤷‍♂️ in my opinion used properly is the biggest fuel saver and with a little bit of clever coasting on my truck,in the summer when the air is a bit thiner I got 11.5 to the gallon fully freighted,I just watched your video your right about them old trucks 🤷‍♂️
