At the end of the day, trucking companies and o/o are either going to have to start demanding bigger pay, or they're going to shut down because of fuel costs. There is no other way around it. The fuel surcharges are now digging into our pay heavily, making it not even worth it to run some of this freight. That stupid freedom convoy should have shown up on the white house lawn to protest this, and all the other crap we deal with every week, such as no semi truck parking after 8pm in most locations, awful lumpers that screw up our whole days and force us to give up good paying loads, outrageous lumper fees, bs fmcsa regulations, dots outright scumbag nature, and brokers that refuse to work with us on price. This industry is going to find out real quick what a boycott looks like. When o/o park it, they're going to be in deep shit.

I just picked up a 2016 T680 that can do 8 to 8.5 mpg loaded if I keep my speed down, and I managed to fill up for only $4/gal at my last two fuel stops (Butte MT and Faucett MO). I'm getting passed left and right by company guys still but I've definitely noticed many O/Os starting to slow down with me 🤣 I'm sure we'll start seeing all the companies that turned their trucks up to 68 or 70 during the pandemic when diesel was cheap come back down to earth soon, then we'll be back to the days of Prime/Swift/Schneider 62mph elephant races.

I understand from a money standpoint an aero truck being more sensible but as a lifelong driver I still have a passion for driving, it has never been about the money and I understand why drivers continue to drive old style conventional trucks. Fuel surcharges are variable adjustements for contract rates. It doesn’t carry over to the spot market at all. The only thing that matters in the spot market is the loads to trucks ratio in the locations of pick and delivery. That’s why carriers have been able to demand high rates for the last two years. If there are ten loads to trucks you have to pay alot to move your freight. During this time, carriers quoted high and said “thats supply and demand buddy”. The number of loads have dropped. The rates will not come up until enough MC’s go out of business to change the load to truck ratio OR load volume goes up. Brokers took losses for a long time. They are now making up for it. The large brokerages will not care until the ratio balances back out. They will not care that many trucking companies go out of business. I know this because I am a pricing analyst at a large brokerage and this is the way management thinks. Carriers who have relationships will get better rates. Carriers that screwed over brokers with high rates will get offered a lot less. Many sales reps on the floor will punish the rate chasers. They can look up the carriers load history and internal reviews.

Has nothing to do with how fuel efficient your truck is or is not... What some of you don't realize is some trucking companies pay 100 % of Fsc to the truck and some do not... Fsc at 40%...which translates for every $1000 trucking company charges customer Add taxes +$400 in fsc.... And really to keep things simple...maybe just ask your carrier if the they are paying you a 100% of fuel surcharge or are they profiting from your FSC.. Don't work for company who doesn't honestly compensate you for additional cost..

There’s no unity in trucking industry some drivers decided to claim rights by no hauling, there are those who will rush to take those loads , all the efforts of some go down the drain , we’ll get nothing if we don’t pull together

I'd run 70 but slowed down to 65 sometime last year and it's been working out, I think. Mainly did it so driving wasn't so stressful and I didn't feel like I had to pass everyone ahead of me. I average around 7.5 mpg in my '15 T680 but I want to bump that up to 8+ somehow. I may look into ordering a Flow Below system and Vorblades for my truck. Might even switch to super singles when I'm due for drive tires.

Ronen, at about the 1:00 minute mark you reference fuel surcharge rates as .15, .18 & .20 cents. Please clarify; is this a discount per litre / gallon or is it paid extra per Km / mile driven? I'm in British Columbia looking for a new carrier to lease on to. And it's difficult to compare 🍎 to 🍊 because there seem to be different fuel subsidy programs being offered by different companies.. Fuel caps are also in the mix. For instance, how does .47 cents @ $1.25 per mile compare to .50 cents at $1.60 per mile on a 7MPG truck, over a 900km / 540 Mi round trip using 455 litres / 100 Imperial gallons of fuel? I'm an O/O truck driver, not an accountant. Thanks for providing this quality content.

Great work as usual, so precise and accurate.. I got a question about owner operator and company driver. Am new to this owner operator concept. As her in Asia & Dubai either you have a driver or a company owner.. would u plz explain a bit how these owner operators are paid and what about truck ownership in this process how they are handled I mean the rate per mile, owner’s profit vs driver (profit). What expenses are deducted from owner operator’s pay.. plz need a reply

I don’t think any owner operator needs a fuel chart explained to them or how to calculate FSC or any of this nonsense. Regardless it all comes down to “are you gonna pull cheap freight with stupid fuel prices or are you gonna stand your ground and park your truck and refuse that $2 a mile lousy freight”

That was a cute little price chart..... Didn't see the $12 column, Hunter Biden promised that price by summer, since he's one of the benefactors to this oil control war. It won't matter what mileage your truck gets, average twin 200 tanks will be $5k to fill. Tesla and electric Mack are gearing up for the takeover. We need to reserve comfortable wheelchairs for the upcoming bread lines so we don't blister. And Walmart has a sale on family size tents, since the banks are preparing for another Massive Foreclosure season......

Every business owner in world prices has increased except the Owner Operator pay! These Shippers & Brokers expect the Owner Operator to run at the same rate as when Gas prices was @ $3 &.some change. THE COST OF LIVING HAS WENT UP & OWNER OPERATOR PAY HAS STAYED THE SAME! THIS IS NOT FAIR! IT HAS NOTHING TO WITH MILES PER GALLON OR ANYTHING ELSE! THESE BROKERS NEED TO STOP STEALING FROM THE REAL MEN & WOMEN WHO RUN THESE DAMN ROADS! RAISE THE DAMN RATES! PERIOD! MAKE THE DAMN PAY REFLECT THE COST OF LIVING & THE DAMN GAS PRICES!

I have a 2019 Pete 579. I get 8 miles per gallon. But my big problem is dead head. I just accepted a load with 182 miles dead head. I didn’t realize it was that much. But I get .50 cents per mile dead head over 100 miles. So I don’t get paid the first 100 miles. Which I didn’t see too much of a problem. But now I have a problem. So going forward I am going to have to factor dead head when accepting a load with my company. I’ve never been in the business of turning down loads. But we’ve now entered into a new era. I get 86% FSC. because we run refer. So they get 14% for the refer.
