Great drone video. We drove in a truck camper to Tuk in 2018, the first year the all-weather road was open and spent the first half of July on the Dempster and in Tuk. We were in no rush and in our mid 60’s, assuming this was our one and only trip to this beautiful land. Yes, the water was warmer than I thought it would be. 😃

Thanks for sharing! That's the way to do it! I'd love to know how much it's changed since when you were there and now. Tourism is going to have an effect on the community. Some good and some bad. But either way, it's an awesome trip!

@@Famagogo hi. It was the first summer the New Tuk road was open for travel. A bit soft in places. The campsites may have been there along the ocean, but virtually everyone was camped around the "ARCTIC OCEAN” sign. We were there for 3 days. People had campfires going in the evening. Someone had a guitar. People came and went. The guy with the large walk-in smokers was there selling fish. Everyone was happy and with lots of generally quiet conversations. We were parked by a picnic table beside the slope down to the ocean. It was not warm. My wife waded into the water, I went for a swim. Water is colder in Newfoundland. The real magic was setting the alarm for 3:00am and bundling up to watch the sun NOT set. Spent almost 3 weeks on THE ROAD in our truck camper.

Such a fantastic video to share your travels through Alaska. I’ve only been there on a cruise, which is no comparison to what you’re experiencing on the road. I don’t know that I’ll ever drive there in my van, so it’s great to see your video. Thank you. Great to see you and Kathy so happy, and as always, helping others along the way.

The scenery is gorgeous and I really like the way you've captured it. I did solo trips through the Yukon, Alaska, NWT, etc. Some of the fun was meeting so many people that call these places home (and learning how to pronounce their names and place names) and getting to learn about the culture and traditions, food, houses and living habits.

I have to know, did the young man at the fuel stop in Eagle Plain ask if there were more vans coming? When the 20 of us descended upon him he said we were his worst nightmare lol And I have a story to tell about Tuktoyaktuk but that's for the next time we meet. Meanwhile, enjoy that part of the world and Safe Travels.

I am ready to spend my retirement traveling for a year,torn between a Transit and a Sprinter,as such,how do you find the reliability of the Sprinter,which I prefer but the maintenance availability is from what I understand to be minimal.Just curious if you would comment. Thanks man enjoy your travels.
@Famagogo5 ай бұрын
I have minimal experience with the Transit. The ones I have driven seemed nice, with great power and ergonomics. There are Ford Dealers all over North America, too. The Sprinter is better for ground clearance and off-road in general. The service interval is every 20K miles, so you won't need a dealer that often. You can also get all the standard maintenance with most independent import shops, which helps availability more. I've had minimal breakdowns over the 400K miles/4 different Sprinters I've owned in the last ten years. Mercedes does have a global parts network, which is excellent for us traveling internationally. I can only say I have been really happy with my Sprinters and would not have a concern about buying another one in the future. But there are a lot of great options out there, especially if you include some trucks in the mix. Let me know If I can help with any other questions. Exciting times on your horizon!
@chipsrafferty83625 ай бұрын
@@Famagogo thank you for your timely response,it is assuring to know that using independent shops is in compliance with warranty maintenance.The storage space is also a huge plus for the Sprinter,as such you have allayed my concern with any issue at this point,thanks so much and be safe.
@Famagogo5 ай бұрын
Welcome, just to be clear. If warranty is your main concern. It is best to build a relationship with your local MB dealer. Most independent shops can't help with any sort of warranty claim.

Awesome video!! So how would I fare on the Dempster in my Ram dually pulling my 41’ fifth wheel!?
@Famagogo4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say it's impossible. But that is a long way to pull something that big on a rough dirt road. I think you would have more fun just taking the truck and staying in lodges or camping along the way. This road trashed a set of BFG KO2 tires with big chunks missing. It could ruin a set of tires on your 5th wheel, too. Maybe needing multiple tires to get up and back with it being that big & heavy. Once you get to Deadhorse, there wouldn't be any RV hookups, so it wouldn't be worth it for the 5th wheel. Go light and fast, and you will have a better experience.
@ShawnGriffin-g9w4 ай бұрын
@@Famagogo I like the idea of staying in lodges - after watching a bunch of videos, I agree that leaving the fifth wheel behind is the way to go!

What kind of miles per gallon do you get with the boats and etc..on the top. ? Thanks
@Famagogo5 ай бұрын
Good question. Typically, in the US, we get 14-16 MPG. We are in Latin America now, and with the slower driving here, it's a mile or so better. I had a Toyota Tundra before, which would do 12-14. So, this is pretty good considering all the space and weight in the van. + The boats don't help MPG.

It's safe to travel on the Dempster with, for exemple, Toyo Open Country AT III ? I want to put theses tire on my Kia Carnival 2023.
@Famagogo9 ай бұрын
I’d think those tires would be great. I’ve never owned them but they seem really solid. I can vouch for the BFG KO2 as that’s what we used up there and for the last 750K miles. They are so amazing.

What causes fire ? Is it the ambitious wood companies in trying to collect wood trees. Yesterday I saw about 100 trucks transporting wood trees in the Canadian HWY

@Famagogo Жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for watching. YES, You could do the Dempster in most any van, truck or car. Having quality all terrain tires and fuel range would be the biggest consideration. New sturdy AT tires and 1-2 full sized spare tires would be ideal. A tow would be very costly. So make sure you're prepared to handle any issues yourself. Maybe see my repair kit video for some ideas of what I bring along. kzbin.info/www/bejne/raDZfpt5gMeYjJI
