Those cars are over 40 years old and still look good. I used to ride the train from North Philadelphia Station, to Fern Rick, then catch the Y bus, which is now the 70 to go to school. I remember in 1981 when they first arrived and I saw one coming it was a pleasure to ride these trains. The conductor was making the stops announcement and he had a deep baritone radio type of voice. ALLEGHNEY AVENUE is the next stop, he said. This is a Northbound Local train making all stops. Septa has maintained these cars very well!!

I haven't seen one car with a descent amount of people on it, looks pretty deserted. The BSS never lived up to it'd full potential, I believe ridership peaked in the 40's and 50's, began to decline in the 60's and 70's. In the 80's with the addition of the new cars it seemed to pick up, but in the last decade the crime rate has effected ridership on the Broad Street line. Yet, not the same case for the Blue line, Market Frankford Elevated.

BSL certainly has potential, it could definitely transport a lot more passengers than the MFL. At this point I feel like the MFL has a higher crime rate than the BSL

I can't believe these B-4 railcars have been on the BSS almost 40 years now, anyone know when these cars will be replaced?
@NorthEastCoastRailfan3 жыл бұрын
I don't think there's a certain date of replacement, but SEPTA will probably keep using them for at least 10 years (Silverliner 4s have been in service since 1974)

@TPR Exactly, In all those 40 years these cars have never derailed, but the MFL is like a dice game but they’re still reliable

So I take it from this not a single car remains with the original giant orange stripe?

Sorry for the late response, but as far as I know there aren't any cars with the original paint scheme remaining

Interesting. A two car express? (looks again) Ah, Broad-Ridge. So they no longer turn back at Erie?

They turn back at Olney on weekdays, and Fern Rock on Saturdays if I remember correctly

@@NorthEastCoastRailfan Yes sometimes they use the turn around at Erie if the schedule is off, or they reposition trains. Good memory.
