Growing Giant Pumpkins 2023 Episode 6 - Pumpkin Positioning

Trying to grow a 2500lb Giant Pumpkin.

EPISODE 6 - July 6th
The pumpkins were pollinated from June 19th to June 25th. They grow fairly slowly to start, but then increase quickly around 2 weeks old. Before they get too big (and the 2907 Paton was pushing it) they get put on platforms for a flat, dry, clear area to grow in. They also need shade to stop from getting too hot in the sun, so they each got a pumpkin shelter. I would just cover them with a sheet directly, but they're each getting a timelapse video of their growth, so a sheet on them wouldn't make for a good video.

Thank you! It helps reduce friction as the pumpkin grows, helps with drainage, and also makes it more difficult for animals to burrow under

How do you get the vines to grow so long please??? 😮

What would happen if you grew them inside a fluid? I believe it could evenly spread out the pressure around the surface making them more symmetrical and maybe even grow larger than they already do... Water would probably lead to premature rot tho

This year I'm growing my first giant pumpkin 🎃 I have a pumpkin on the main stem, I cut all the secondary stems and the main stem after the pumpkin so that there aren't more pumpkins on the secondary stems and the main stem doesn't make more secondary stems and more pumpkins?

You can do a water filled mattress or simply a big water hole and over it a plastic where the Giant Pumpkin will stay growing it will reduce deformations due to its weight.
