Third time watching this! It doesn’t get old. After being out on St Clair yesterday, with a lot of the fish on beds, easy picking. It’s how the anglers adjust in the coming weeks that separates a good day to a great day. We caught them yesterday on tubes of course. But early in the morning we hammered them on lipless, jerk, crank, and swim jigs. Most of the people are sticking to just the Ned, drop, or tubes. Great stuff again Chris 🙏🏻

I'm blessed to live in a Lake Michigan beach community, and have the opportunity to chase trophy-class smallies just by walking down to the harbor and bank-fishing. And you're right, these fish up here just balloon themselves on forage. I've never caught a petite smallmouth out of the big lake.

The part of this video that really stuck with me is talking about them gobies. I’m a southern boy from Charleston South Carolina so I’m normally fishing for speckled trout, red drum, largemouth bass, or crappie. We take a trip once a year to the Shenandoah river in Virginia to fish and just get away. My first float down the river with my fiancés uncle in an old aluminum john was the time of my life. Not just because the rapids in an aluminum boat lol but because I was just in awe from how clear the water was and how savage these smallies are. Casting in rapids before and after them both producing fish. Casting in heavy current and feeling your Ned rig thunk on the rocks below and then it’s on after that. Absolutely love the video and great job in the redfish tourney ! Best and most informative video on smallies I’ve seen yet. Great job man

What an amazing fishery they have become indeed! An AWESOME video and I really love the underwater shots. What acrobatics they exhibit!! But you are so right, your equipment must be on target and ready to take on everything that the lakes are about to punish you with. Wind, waves, and anything else that can ruin a day if you aren't prepared for it. And batteries are a huge part of it. They have to able to stand the pounding and run all the equipment without a hiccup. Keep explaining it Chris!! And keep the videos coming.

Awesome video 👏🏻. I am pretty fortunate to live so close to St Clair, and I try to get out more each year. I agree, the bait selection has expanded, but dragging tubes and drop shot is hard to escape, early season. Having the right equipment is imperative! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve lost power to my electronics up front. Better equipment seems like a solution. Battling waves and wind chews up a lot of battery power. I love throwing bigger baits for smallies and seeing others do the same! I even added a Megabass megadog to my smallie big bait arsenal. I got it a little late this season to give it much use this year but I look forward to getting it smashed next year.

I definitely played around with topwater and smallies on the river this year and was surprised fish that mainly feed down still eat topwater!

@@Zaldaingerous where I mostly fish is out west and there aren’t gobies and there is a lot of offshore bait and they go crazy over topwater and bigger baits at times! It’ll be fun to see you guys on Oahe next year!

3 Words..."I'm thinking Magdraft" From watching you I have came full circle with this versatile bait. I am reminded of an article Zona did wheee he was fishing shallow water, and made the comment “So many smallmouth techniques are with light line, and the smallmouth has leverage over us. This is caveman style; it is barbaric.” There is something special that goes on when you connect with any bass that attacks larger swimbaits...and if you have felt it YOU KNOW!

Agree Jeff! Swimbaits and smallies are a whole new adrenaline rush that I’m happy to partake in 🤠

Hey Chris! Love the video! Larger than normal swimbaits have been hugely successful for me in MN and are such an underutilized smallmouth presentation in my opinion. I just bought my first bass boat at 16 and if I’m going to be running Humminbird 360 all day (which I hope to buy over the winter) it would be great to have a high quality battery in the boat! Regardless I love the content and keep on rollin’ 🤟🏼🔨

Wow, boat owner at 16? I owned a kick boat at that age. That's very cool and shows your passion and commitment to fishing. Keep with it!
