Northern Wisconsin SPEARING Crappie!!

On today’s episode of Wisconsin fisherman the Wife and I wanted to try our luck at some spearing. The water is cooling off with winter coming. We speared some nice bluegill and crappie!

I’m definitely inspired to try this here in central WI. I need to hit you up about some of your gear. It’s great seeing the other wildlife too, even if you’re not harvesting them. And to the haters, it’s 100xs more sporting than sitting there, totally dry, taking bag limits day after day, killing small fish you’ll never eat.

Very cool!!! 👍👍 Can you spear game fish or only pan and rough fish? If you take a few jugs of warm water along and pour it down into your wetsuit you won't experience that temperature shock so much when you first get in. Especially if you're ice diving. Also, I agree with the people recommending a diver down flag. One of the people I dive with got a fine for not having a flag in Racine Quarry. Racine Quarry, where boats are not allowed!! It's just easier to protect yourself from getting hassled by a "hero" cop on a rampage of self-righteousness. Great video!!!! 👍👍

What could be more sportsman like? You have no electronics you are in the water finding them through the weeds and spearing selectively what you want. Sounds more sportsmanlike than most fishing

I enjoy seeing the world under the water. Diving and spearing takes another level of commitment. My guess is that it would be pretty difficult to snorkel and spear for more than about 50 minutes. There is no trolling motor to pull you along. And the mask gets fogged. But, there also is no catch and release with a spear, so the spearer needs to be prepared to clean and eat everything that he or she catches.

@@Wisconsin_Fisherman Just my opinion but I don’t see anything sporting about spearing panfish. People that bow fish are just shooting carp for the most part. I view the panfish as a more valuable commodity.

Never look directly at your target fish. Aim your spear first. Only turn at the last second to make sure your aim is true. Also your first fish is your easiest fish. They get spooked quick. So pick a big one.
