Ok, I'm going to say it. The 10 points for a painted army are the hardest 10 points you'll earn. I'm 37, coach and compete in powerlifting at a high level, have a wife, kid, mortgage, work lots of overtime, and I make time to paint to the best of my ability to present an immersive aesthetic in games that I participate in. If you've painted a list, for God's sake, take your 10 points. You've EARNED it. It's not easy to make happen, especially as you get older and time becomes more of a luxury. I'll make bad calls and lose secondaries and primaries so that my opponent and I can have a funner game (where appropriate), but I'm very hard on the battle-ready points.

BreadforHands here, as North said it was my fault for giving Cleetus the option of taking the painted army bonus. At the end of the story I said I felt less likely to be so generous even to new players in the future (in a tournament setting), which was me realizing exactly what you have said here.

@@breadhands1970 you're good, my dude! You were accommodating to a new player! We had a similar dilemma in our discord 40k group, and it was fairly recent. It took a hot minute, but we got the gang on the same page with this perspective as well (non painters were complaining about people taking the points, prior to us all addressing it). I definitely feel you and wouldn't fault you!!

@@adamc436 I really don't have any sympathy for "non-painters". Between colored primers, contrast paints, and washes, it's easier than it's ever been to get an army painted to passable battle-readiness even without stepping foot into any other stores. After all, it's not like the rule says that the army has to be painted well - only that it's painted.

Agree. I refuse play any table top war-game without painted models. I spend too much time and money in this hobby to settle for laziness or impatience. I’ll help you paint them rather than play the game.

Model rules comming with the model depends with GW, at least for me. For some models I bought they had stat sheets for models, some didn't.

25:27 sounds cool. I have my own system that I base a lot of my tau lore out of. Other end of the startide nexus, it has purple flora (my tau are purple, very covenant from halo themed, similarly to my Primaris army which is very Spartan from halo themed) It’s set in Imperium Nihilis, and has drawn the attentions of other powers since it’s a stable non warp-shocked system with several habitable worlds.

I am wondering. Could they have called company HQ and gotten the GW trainer in trouble? Based on the body language described in the story you could theoretically stretch it to say that he was at least very rude and passive aggressive to customers which may have gotten him in trouble. IDK this guy seems like he’s deserve a chewing out.

If someone has a passion for their army and did not want to paint them because they do not want to mess up I would never turn my nose up to not play them like some elitist. Painting is not the be all end all for some people in the hobby especially when they just want to play a game. I plan on painting my own stuff because I want to and it is great that people are encouraging others, but at times it seems overbearing to constantly read about NEEDING to paint when it should be a wanting.

I’d agree with this in any normal casual game, but this was a tournament. And it’s not like you CAN’T play in the tournament without painted models, you can. Just at a disadvantage which I do think is fair

@@breadhands1970 no arguments either with it being a tournament as long as you can play it even with the point penalty. Personally I don't mind winning or losing as I am just glad to play the game regardless and meta be damned ^_^
