The bearings are recessed into the titanium on both sides of the 0456. They have been from the very beginning. I preordered one from DLT Trading in the beginning with the CTS204P. I also purchased another from USA Made Blade in the CPM20CV... both are recessed into the titanium handles. In fact USA Made Blade has a video of the disassembly of this knife. He disassembles his personal knife (the first one to ever hit his shop) Also recessed into the titanium. Maybe you have the real and the fake mixed up. 🤔

Northern Knives is a great knife store with awesome staff and there’s never any pressure when you walk in there. Mike and Lori are great folks.

Owning only the fake prevents the comparison, however after some days of continuous use, I think that maybe the real difference between the original and the clone lies in a slightly lower retention in the fake, imo.

Love walking in the shop and staring at that selection. The Rotties are a plus. :)

Guys, I hope that you could clarify the details between real and clone on areas where others here have pointed out. New buyer may look to your video for advise, so that will be a responsible things to do. Thank you.

I bought this knife from your store a few years back in cpm20cv and now I'm confused. They look nearly identical. The biggest thing I noticed in differences with what I could see clearly was the scalloping in the back of the blue spacer.

this was one of our first tear downs and we try to always improve. Also thank you for pointing this out!

@@Northernknives it was cool, and I didn't know a fake existed of this one. Thanks for the content.

The clone opens with a higher-pitched "thwack," while the ZT opens with more of a "thunk." Also, I believe that the clone uses aluminum handles, which can scratch, while the titanium will instead show bright marks. A bright blue backspacer is a true sign of a fake.

I really liked this video and subject discussion . Good Job Well Done ! Trying to Avoid Fakes Is Paramount for most of Us . I would really like US. Customs to Ferret these out when they enter Country . But for all I know , these could be fake Manufactured In Country as well . Like You Have Stated , Un Less You are Familiar with the authentic Knife , one has nothing to compare the experience . That's why I like to honor local and close range dealers with Brick and Mortar Shop's . Like You ! or if buying online , purchasing from a brick and Mortar dealer that has direct interest and motivation to be Up Front truthful with you !

The clone is better since they have a CERAMIC ball bearing.
@Northernknives Жыл бұрын
i guess? Why would you want bearings that wear the races instead of races that wear the bearings? I feel like it would lead to really bad blade wobble over time as material wears down against the ceramic. usually you use a sacrificial material against ceramic bearings and in this case that would be the frame / blade.

Some fakes these days are amazing, and the cosmetic details are very good. And as you said, if someone has never handled the knife before, which is probably most of the time, then i's very difficult to spot the fake from details, However, I've never seen a fake where the weight corresponds to the listed weight of the real deal. Your knife is modified, so it's really hard to say, but if it is straight from the factory, the variability in the weight of production knives is extremely low just because CNC machines are extremely precise. The only differences in weight are in the blade grinds and the finishing on the scales, and the variability between knives is typically fractions of a percent. However, the weights are often off by 20% and more, especially with the knives with titanium scales or are billet titanium. I don't remember which of you said this, but some materials are just more expensive and harder to work with. And physiics doesn't lie. No matter how good your machining is, or your grinding, or your finishing, titanium is lighter than steel and heavier than aluminum. I;ve seen "titanium framed" Spydercos weight in at 3.8 ounces, when any reliable sources shows that the weight of the knife over 7 years of production indicate that it started at 4.2 ounces, and ended up at 4.1 ounces, probably due to minor design changes. But it was never as low as 3.8 ounces, which can only happen beause you are using differnt materials (probably aluminum, as suggested). Similarly, I've seen a fake plain Jane Sebenza 31 weigh in at 5.2 ounces, when the listed weight is 4.7 ounces. I put in a full aluminum backspacer, and that only added 0.06 ounces. So, for those without the ability to rockwell test, or see something side by side, the easiest way to see if you may have biought a fake, especially of something that is cosmetically simple looking, like the Chris Reeve Sebenza, is to throw it on the scale.

Aggreed, I find it funny whom ever makes the fakes should just make their own brand of knife. They are no where's near quality of zt but still not a totally horrible knife. (Just as good as most of your old lock back buck knives)
