The glasses make it so the player can see farther on dark levels. also when your torch goes out you can re-light it at the stands you have been igniting throughout the level. Thumbs up so maybe he will read it, please and thank you

Hey NL. Not sure if you're aware, (since you never seem to mention it lol,) but I'm pretty sure the main difference between the Udjat and Glasses are that the glasses have the added benefit of showing where hidden items are within the terrain. Granted, this is pretty rare, but can help when talking about things like jetpacks and shotguns. Plus, you know, if you're not planning on hitting the City Of Gold lol.

It was an extremely tough situation, without a doubt. I think the best thing you can do at that point is back off, and think it through and be as efficient as possible. Or just back off and toss a few bombs in there, if you want to play it safe as possible. A huge part of this game is being prepared for loss and failure. It's very possible to have your best run lose at the worst possible time, and you just have to accept that. The trial and error and learning makes the game real fun.

Northernlion binding of Isaac challenge run suggestion: Using spidermod, set all enemies to champion, and all bosses to champion. Start with tough love, one damage up, and set up your pill pool like this. Four luck ups, a health dow, and a tears down.

The glasses in the game also increase your vision in dark levels to the same level as if you are holding a torch.

You can't leave that little box that you get put in when you die. Even the three blocks underneath the statue are completely impervious to explosions, the big Yetis, the mammoths, the spaceships, the plasma cannon, pretty much anything in the game. You can't escape the box to retrieve something. You're stuck until you leave using the door.

Northernlion man, I know you're not going to read this but you can safely push the powder kegs! They aren't going to explode unless they fall or get hit by something including blood! You probably won't get hurt when they fall and explode so that would be the best course of action!

There was plenty of rhyme and reason to the way he died in the last part. Launching 3 bombs into an area full of extremely dangerous enemies with weapons is always a risk. Especially when you're next to Anubis, a mummy, an angry shopkeeper and a lava pit.

gah.. watching this makes me want to play it,i've downloaded the original before,but i am such a cautious player when i comes to playing games like this,i don't know the differences from the original and new,but the ghost does appear in the old one right?

Should have bought the spike shoes instead of the spring shoes. Sure, spring shoes will help you make that tough jump every now and then, but spike shoes are far more useful. They allow you to kill more enemies with a single head-jump.. and enemies that are usually invulnerable to head-jumps take just a few jumps to kill. This allows you to save bombs, and have alternative when attacking foes that are below you.

Not much reason to get it in a shop if you are planning on getting the Udjat Eye, but if you get it otherwise it's nothing but a benefit.

Spectacles aren't completely redundant. Aside from allowing you to see the gems in walls like the Eye, they also increase the light radius in dark levels.

To be fair, the Spectacles' secondary effect is pretty subtle, so when people see that its primary effect is shared with the Udjat eye, it seems pretty garbage. I'll give you the Camera one though, he hasn't really given it a chance. It is a pain to have to drop and pick up again though every time you want to kill most enemies though

Watching Ryan mine through 10 dirt blocks with no gold or gems in it to reach 500 gold on the ground just to watch him run past 500g and a ruby right next to each other in the ground without mining it hurts my soul.

I really REALLY want Northernlion to pick up the Crysknife at some point. I doubt he even knows what it is, considering he has passed it up twice even though it was right on the screen. The strongest weapon in the game that can be used masterfully if one is careful enough. He can't rely on the shotgun forever, considering how it always ends up disappearing or getting himself killed.

He's well aware of the tactic, but he doesn't want to take the risk because he doesn't react well to the ghost, as you may have seen in this episode. You might see him trying it a bit more in later runs.

No, it's the same level, but you can't leave the statue once you're inside of it, even with bombs since the statue and the floor under it won't break.

i found out now i think,you can't actually leave weapons at the enterance of it because the walls are solid so you can't have a weapon with you unless your frozen,so i've heard.

Just 69 runs? Don't worry, NL has had hundreds of runs. He's played this PC version maybe 80 - 100 times now and has, as far as I know, only beaten Olmec 3 - 4 times. And a lot of that experience came from his XBLA gameplay.

Bombs are undeniably great. Nothing besides the mattock, or bomb frogs can't break through the ground, which can cut hard levels to mere seconds.

He had the jetpack, you can only carry one of the two, and the jetpack functionally replaces the cape anyway.

Ryan, you should always buy all the bombs you can after you get the eye. They are super cheap that early, and you will definitely be able to make more than your money back from farming gems with said bombs. Rubies alone make up for it, and either of the other gems with gold near it will also return more on your investment. TLDR Get more bombs and use them more intelligently!

Isn't it possible to leave the shotgun next to the Moai so that when you commit suicide it doesn't go away?? Seems pretty obvious to me. Or are all offensive items just deleted from the level?

on dark lvl the spectacles makes it brighter as if you where caring a torch, so its ok if you have say a shotgun you would not need to carry both.

Eh, foxman never appreciated the camera either, until he killed his first vampire in hell. NL stagnated a lot in his XBLA spelunky videos but he's been learning bit by bit ever since he's started the steam version. Incremental progress and discovery are exactly what games like Spelunky are all about.

1:54 hey Northernlion, if you get the chance to trade a bomb for 5+ grand on the first floor, ALWAYS do it, there is a guaranteed shopkeeper on the 2nd floor and you can pick up a bomb bag for that money you ding dong :D
