I'm gonna finish this video, but holy hell I gotta react to this: "It doesn't seem like there's a combo archetype yet" NL... this character is literally DESIGNED to combo. It has cards that generate random common cards and POWERS every turn, has cards specifically for cycling draw when powers and channeling cards are played, and has one card providing defense SPECIFICALLY based on your discard stack. Everything about this character is BUILD THICK AND COMBO... and you keep looking at it and going "Nah."

the problem with the defect is it takes a long time to wind up especially when NL is playing him here, before his cards got tweaked, meaning youre guaranteed to take damage each combat while your combos get started.

CaptainThunderWolf there's something to be said for just playing and ignoring the orbs. With cards like void, steam power and skim, you can dig for any card, and reprogram+ let's you see the next 6 and discard for free. Grab an all for one and hologram+ and you're pretty much getting any and every card you want every turn. Add in any type of plasma and orb cycle (even with just one orb slot and some focus) and you're basically infinite, and pumping out huge damage per turn. Defect is amazing and incredibly diverse in play styles.

NL vastly overestimates the passive damage done from orbs from the get go. 16 damage from dualcast would require that one orb to hang around for 6 turns. How often does that happen?

Genetic Algorythm persist through combats. Which means if you use it once per combat after 5 combats it's going to be 11 block for 1 energy, and after 10 combats it's going to be 21 block for 1 energy.

I had mine around 40+ and still got wrecked by Nemesis, so it's hardly a game winner. It's a good late combo with undo/forcefield or glacier etc and the intangible event though. Gives you like 8 rounds of being essentially invincible. You just need to be able to kill anything in that time, or have a competent defense set up.

This is a lesson that it doesn’t matter what chatacter its used on, Velvet Choker is bad and voids any deck archetype. Egg, treat it like Isaac’s Heart and avoid it like the plague. I think he understands the character’s potential more than he realizes, especially without Choker stopping him

Why play tempest with 4 energy and get 3 lightning orbs along with 16 damage, when you can play two strikes for 12 damage, a zap and then the tempest with 1 energy left, it's more complicated, which means it's better, right?

NL, Hologram starts bad, but UPGRADED Hologram is great. Gives you any card in your discard. Combine that with streamline, and you get a killer combo, dealing at least 30 damage and getting streamline cheap fast.

TerminalVerbosity nah, he's just genuinely awful at this (and many other) games. It took him over a hundred runs to stop 1/3'ing every damn fight, sometimes several times. Let's not forget the game where he had upwards of 60 misplays and still whines that the game was too hard. I'm pretty safe I think concluding that he can do no wrong in your eyes, if you think he's playing great, and people are just being whiney. Either that or you're just as awful (or worse) than he is.

Oh no. I fully get that he isn't "good" at this game and that he messes things up. But I also know that is just not a big deal. In any way, shape or form. But his audience for Slay are obsessed with whinging and back seating. They're one of those groups where everyone just so happens to be the ideal player and none of them ever make a single mistake. I actually really enjoy Genetic Algorithm, every time you play it the block gets increased by 2 forever, which means it it stacks through every combat so at the end of the second floor you could have a card giving you 30 block for 1 energy

NL... Genetic algorithm does not increase by 2 for the rest of combat. It exhausts when you play it. Instead, it increases by 2 for the *REST OF YOUR RUN*

Had to read it a few times to realize what Genetic Algorithm does - I thought "block-rampage", too, then was super confused by the fact that it exhausts, then it clicked. Seems pretty great to get early - one use per fight, block size incements each time you burn it in a fight, so it becomes like a 1-cost Impervious+ eventually.

Blaster gives you back energy proportionally to your orbs. So when you have five or six orbs, you should blaster+tempest or reinforced body.

genetic agorithm is a ong term defend card, and iit increses throughout the ENTIRE run, so it could end up with a large ammount of block, and you couldd pair it with the spoon so you have a 50 % chance to keep it in your dec and continue upgrading it

Hey NL, at 7:30 you shouldn't have used the strikes before casting tempest. Each additional use of tempest would have evoked a lightning orb, dealing eight damage, as opposed to the six damage from strike. I've made the same mistake before, and it's not a huge misplay, but it is a little suboptimal!

I got Ice Cream in my last run, that with the card that doubles your energy means I was able to do 25 lighting strikes in one turn. Theoretically you could do a lot more than that with the right build and some luck!

IamI3rian I said pushing, my dude - not rushing. He has a backlog built up and could have quite easily just added the Defect videos and the Isaac booster videos to the tail end of that backlog. But instead he made extra work for himself by giving us two episodes of each. So yeah, I think rushing actually applies, comparatively speaking. Thanks, Ryan, for rushing out the Defect and booster videos in three days rather than three weeks. :)

No, he clearly just added them on the end of his two day backlog. I'm not sure if you check the dates on his daily runs, but that's what happened mate. It was neither rushed, nor pushed. That's why people were upset. Literally everyone else double uploaded 2x(+) defect videos, NL was still posting shit dailies for days until the backlash caught up with the backlog.
