Pears are built differently here in the UK. They love our constant rain and rich soil. Slightly unripe pears are crispy and slightly tangy while slightly overripe are soft and sweet, both very nice. They're not incredibly expensive, but they come in packs of 4 while apples are packs of 6 so I do typically go for apples but it's not all that rare that the apples will run out and I'll happily go for pears next
