I had the same immediate reaction as you, but it doesn't matter at all. 10000 max health, you sacrifice 20%, you go to 8000 max health. take off your belt to be at 5000 max health, you sacrifice 20%, and go to 4000 max health. then you put your belt back on, you're at 8000 max health. Works out the same either way.

I find myself always asking what NL is doing and where he can improve. I don't know why I do this when I haven't even played Bazaar, I just like thinking about how games work. Anyway, I think NL is too predisposed to building O(n) builds. They always scale linearly and he doesn't seem to acknowledge that items can be used faster than once per second with trigger or charge. I also think he breaks damage down just with dps but doesn't acknowledge frequency and ttd (time to damage) so he often leans too heavily on high damage items when there is a threshold where lower damage but higher frequency is more powerful. Thanks for listening to my TED talk, I'll fill out the form.

Yeah I kinda agree. imo NL is very much a Timmy in this game: he likes it when his number is big and makes his opponent's healthbar go BOOM, and he's reeeeally resistant to giving up any of his big numbers to make his build more consistent. See: clinging to both the Beast of Burden and the Double Whammy in this run, even with a fantastic reason to drop one of them for three smalls (Juggler, a skill that I basically always want to see when I fight the mob that drops it, especially when my build revolves around something like, say, a heavily scaled Beast of Burden). I think you *can* trick him into making more consistent builds with items like Trebuchet, which start out with big numbers and come with an in-built mechanism for accelerating their damage, but if he has to construct a mechanism to do that himself, he's liable to run into a Double Whammy or something before he can figure one out and latch onto that instead.

I find his relationship with chat and the game too combative. I have since decided to watch him play that movie trivia game. It's all the banter without the disdain for chat and emotional resistance to change his gameplay. I get to laugh with him about the silly movie choices and watch him thrive in his element instead of floundering with decisions I think are obvious. I guess, watching him play The Bazaar is more akin to watching someone learn to play the clarinet while also telling the instructor to fuck off. 2025/01/10 Type A chatter's log: The nights grow darker. I continue to tell myself it's a trick of the eyes as my periphery is swallowed by an abyss and my mind whispers acts of malfeasance towards the entertaining egg. I must believe, though, that the glimmer on the horizon is not a phantom but my salvation. I set course towards this light in hopes I will be the type B chatter my father would be proud of. Be the kind of chatter that utters "it's just a game" in their sing-song way as they bask in the warmth of the egg denouncing, condescending, and eviscerating the unlucky type A chatter that dares draw too much attention. Percentage changes in the bazaar work based off of current board state, so having something on the board doubling his health means that his 20% decrease is affecting a pool twice as large. He essentially took a 40% max health decrease from his base hp pool by simply not moving his belt.

Man, I watched the flying machine crash after hearing about it here and holy fuck. It's not particularly funny beyond the concept itself. It's just a guy getting horribly injured and screaming in pain for like 20 minutes while trying to get help. If you just saw a clip of "hey siri call 911...
