NL that first run could have been great if you had a cleave or whirlwind. Whirlwind with 4 energy bodies the birds an keeps gremlin leader summoning instead of attacking. You have started planning for bosses but you also need to plan for second floor enemies and elites. Having one or two more cards is necessary to kill those minions

Barricade Corruption DOES NOT WORK. You need so much other stuff to make it work, it's not a two card instant win!! Ugh that first run was pretty fine until he took corruption, barricade wasn't even a good pick though

you can make this deck work but you have to take a lot more block skills, feel no pain, metallicize, impervious, and some high damage cost cards you can cycle through every turn once you exhaust all your skills, something like carnage or bludgeon. It's a lot harder but its possible

I would have gone for bludgeon instead of barricade, you already had a high damage deck because of all the vulnerable and the only block you took that floor was shrug it off and metalicize

TL;DR: Run Strength 7/10, 9.5/10, Strategy 4/10, Tactics 3/10. A very odd episode from a tactical standpoint, I feel. NL still underrates Vulnerability, or more he underrates Bash which was his only source. > NL can't just build on his deck's strengths, he needs to counteract the enemy's strengths as well. His second deck was good in a fishbowl scenario but would have folded horribly to any heavy permanent status enemy or the Transient. > Avoiding so many elites is a really bad sign, especially in act 1. He's going to need the extra leverage in Ascensions 19 and 20, should he make it that far. > I think Ryab just needs to completely throw out all his previous card evaluations. There's very very few cards that are actually unpickable, and it's unnecessarily hurting him early to be passing up on so many of the Ironclad's damage cards. > Vulnerability is good enough that it makes playing Bash worth it. Please stop underestimating the card. > I think it's perfectly fine to take cards that don't do anything with your deck currently - Dark Embrace and Feel No Pain hard counter the Chosen, for instance, even if you don't exhaust. Same with Evolve - utility cards have their place. Act 1: - None of the other choices were worth too much. - Shovel isn't good until NL learns how to snowball properly, I think. The standard Ironclad suite has so much vulnerability that Trip isn't that good, but it is free? I would have taken Combust; 5 AoE damage for 1 energy is hideously efficient. Uppercut is a really good pick. - I'm never that mad about Tiny Chest, but Hemo + Spot might have been a better call. Hemokinesis does just absurd amounts of damage for 1 energy. Spot isn't that fast, but you don't really need it to be fast. - There's an argument for Whirlwind here. Trip+ isn't a be-all endall solution to AoE fights; you still need an attack. Still, though, Shrugs are always good to have. - Hey, it's Metallicize! Thanks random chat members. Mitigating chip damage is still important even if you can't block fully. - Really wish NL would fight at least one Elite - Ironclad is extremely good at fighting them, after all. - Again, Combust is spicy. - Thankfully, with so much HP he actually takes the goop gold. - This is a very bad Barricade pick. NL just doesn't create that much block, and can't really afford to play the Barricade either. Bludgeon would have been a lot better. Sozu was the right call there. Act 2: - I'd honestly add a Feel No Pain to a deck with zero exhausting in it. Not as instantly as I would have pre-nerf, but there's enough Dazes thrown around (and Corruption, Shockwave, Disarm, True Grit, Impervious...) that I think it's worthwhile. - Corruption instantly shows up. Well, NL's still stuck in Corruption + Barricade = win when it's so much more complex than that, but at least that call about the Feel No Pain was probably right. All those other buys were horrible in the light of the second shop - could have gotten a Sling, or a Feel no Pain and an Oddly Smooth Stone, or any number of things that are much better than the friggin Spoon which turns off Exhaust synergies half the time. - I don't know why NL wants to play Barricade so much - he can't do anything with the stored block anyways other than just sit on it, he doesn't generate serious burst block, and with the Corruption active he can't win longer fights anyways. - NL, why did you all in the Gremlin Leader from 80 HP with a Fat Gremlin alive? That's never gonna end well. Act 1, part 2: - I forgave you last time because you had Trip+ and Uppercut+, but upgrade Bash, you friggin Egg. This guy thinks Iron Wave+ is better than Bash+... - Holy shit, Defend+ over Bash. Please kill me. - Vajra is pretty huge on Ironclad to make Limit Break guaranteed to work. Whirlwind too helps against the Slime Boss, since it's compact card-wise for the Slimed turns and highly AoE. Disarm and a removal are good, but makes the Slime Boss unnecessarily touchy I think, whereas the other two directly help him. It's only 3 Slimed rather than 5 and he does have 40 damage in potions, but the rest of his deck is very Body Slam reliant for damage. - I'd honestly take Dark Embrace and fish for a Corruption Dark Embrace Body Slam combo deck. Granted, I'd have taken the Feel No Pain too, which would have made it better. Headbutt is way worse than Carnage, too. - Juggernaut or Impervious would be my choice, leaning towards the Impervious without the Dark Embrace to fuel a Feel No Pain chain. Snecko Eye is too absurd on Ironclad not to take, honestly; every single Snecko Eye run I've done on Asc 20 as the Ironchad has made it to the Heart. Act 2, part 2: - NL's deck is horrifically weak to statuses. Hopefully he picks up an Evolve or a True Grit or something. - Egg takes 2 chip damage for basically no reason whatsoever. - True Grit is extremely necessary because any Burns or Wounds will actually do horrible things to NL. - NL misses a Headbutt, fetch the Bodyslam, draw the Body Slam with Shrug kill. - Note that all those powers NL asked for? He was literally offered them on the first floor. - There's the Corruption that would have tied the Exhaust deck together. I'd have bought it even without all those powers, but it wouldn't do enough in the Champ fight for me to be excited. - Him playing Flame Barrier over Bash in that buffing turn nearly gave me a heart attack. Still, though, he spotted the Armaments lethal to save the fight. I expect Asc 19 to wall him fairly hard because NL doesn't seem to be playing around boss mechanics that well. - Runic Pyramid is one of the strongest relics in the game as of now and really should be taken. NL's deck can abuse it extremely well too by holding block cards and Body Slams, as long as he can get some exhaust. Act 3: - True Grit is a very strong pick to get rid of Statuses, which are even more important to get rid of now thanks to Runic. - By ignoring Bash, NL throws away all chances of living through the Transient. He needed the vulnerability to persist through the later turns to survive.

Just wanted to say I enjoy your recaps! I think NL has been improving over the last few videos, but he still has a lot of blind spots when it comes to Ironclad, particularly exhaust synergies. He almost never takes Feel No Pain which can be extremely strong. He also really overvalues armaments I think- it's not a bad card but certainly not a snap pick.

Vulnerability is very good but I have to say that bash is horrible. Normally if I have anything that inflicts vulnerability like uppercut I just straight up remove bash ahead of a strike or defend. Token cards that deal vulnerability are top tier like trip.

Fabio Silva I feel like if you’re in a position to remove Bash, you’ve either taken Pandora’s Box and gotten a ton of Uppercuts Shockwaves etc or you’re in a position where you’re so hilariously far ahead that you’ll likely win anyways. Or a Perfected Strike deck, although even then I feel like the Vulnerability enables the burst so well that I’d consider removing a Strike or saving the gold instead. Basically, my thinking is that you want to upgrade Bash most of the time, and then it’s clearly better than a Strike, so there’s no point in ditching it.

i would imagine never. i mean, he still hates Metallicize, which, if it read, "Give yourself 3 Plated Armor", he'd think it's the best card ever. he hates Dash and Steamline too, despite Streamline carrying him through the last Defect run he did... and he won't upgrade Bash or Neutralize for the life of him. i mean, 18:00, he upgrades a friggin basic Defend over Bash... annnd then immediately skips a half-price Metallicize in a defense-focused deck 30 seconds later.

He doesn't like Metallicize, which gives you 3 or 4 block per turn, but thought it was really useful to take Feel No Pain, which does 3 or 4 block when exhausting, in a deck without consistent exhaust.

Honestly that first run was pretty sweet. Even though it resulted in a loss, using the spoon to avoid the downside of corruption was a pretty smart idea. I think, given more card draw, this kind of run could potentially work

I think he severely underrates Evolve. Given the statuses that come on the later floors I think it'd be worth at least a consideration, and on this run it would have made taking Mark of Pain free over Sozu. Granted hindsight is 20/20 but still, Evolve isn't as bad as he seems to think it is

When you see Corruption look at your relics, is there a dead branch? Yes? Insta win. No? Ok do you have “feel no pain” or a 20+ deck with good drawing relic/cards? If yes it’s not insta win but good. If no then it’s trash do not pick it. No it doesn’t combo with Barricade. You’re spending 6 mana to purify your defends

A successful body slam deck usually has 2 upgraded body slams, barracade, entrench, upgraded defensive cards and metallicize. adding other offensive cards usually just ruins your draws. removing all strikes help as well.

The first one isn't that strong by itself (it's still better than a single defend), but once you get a second and third one it can carry a run. Having 3 upgraded metalicize's is disgusting, especially with Juggernaut/barricade

The ironclad is probably the best character. He has a multitude of different viable builds that require very little set up for it to work. It has access to immolate which. Basically guarantees access to the 3rd lvl and counters 4 elites. The issue is NL undervalues most good cards or chooses to go thin without any need. The only card that is broken is echo form which basically almost guarantees a free won but aside from that no class is better than the other

You need to slow down your play man. You’re losing hp because you rush kills, you lose points because you’re not planning out your turns fully before you act, you take fights/rewards that are risky and avoid risks you can afford to take in that precise moment. You’re also picking “good cards” that unbalance your deck and bloat your cycles. I think your play is overall on the right track but you’re losing a lot of your runs in the margins.
