Here's something I've noted: For some reason people in Seattle appear inherently more rude than people from the other side of the mountains. I hold a door open for someone in Seattle, they give me looks like I'm crazy. I do that in my hometown (Spokane) or another bigger city like Yakima or Wenatchee, I get thank yous. A very small example, but also walking the streets of Seattle you see upset faces, or straight up glares as you walk by. Spokane you can say hi to someone and they're very likely to smile and say hi back, or even say it first. Maybe it's partially the fact that it's a smaller city? (Of course I also lived in a very small populated area BUT it was a major tourist spot. I was always kind with tourists even if sometimes they'd clog our roads to watch something that occurs every night. Most rude I've been with a tourist is laugh a little because they asked where Mcdonald's was and I said "oh about a 100 miles that way or that way" since we're a small town.)
