Your movie timing is flat out incorrect, and Kate's is perfect. Movie "starts" at 9:30, means the previews start then. The movie doesn't ACTUALLY start until about 10. if it takes 20 minutes to get there. The correct answer, is that you should leave between 9:30 and 9:40 to get to a 9:30 movie.
