@ludmilabevan3283

@@karenwheeler2610 What a coincidence, so do I. It is a part of a set. A mirror, hair brush, large tortoise shell hair comb on a tray with embroidery between the glass. Mine is not silver though. I'd say it is more 1950-s. I have an Art Deco silver set but the comb included is very small and it does not have a silver trim rather silver casing for the comb. Not quite the same.

You are right about the heat tester for a kiln. The spikes are designed to 'slump' at certain temperatures and so a set like that will be used to be sure that your kiln is reaching optimum temperature. When running such a test in a larger kiln one places a 'set' in multiple places to see if the heat is consistant.

At 4:59 the piece with the three triangular spikes is a potter's gauge for measuring the heat in a kiln. The blob of clay with the spikes is put into the kiln. Each spike will sag at a different temperature. The potter can see when to turn off the heat inside for the right doneness of his greenware, bisqueware and glazings.

I just love watching your channel, you are both so special. This is my happy place. I forget about my worries and get fully absorbed into virtual mudlarking with you. I jump for joy in my heart when you find such amazing treasures. I'm so happy when all the beautiful items are rescued, and brought back to life. They really made things so well back in the day. Everything in this haul was amazing. 😍 I had an idea for all the toy soldiers who have lost life and limb. I was picturing a collage for the wall. A 3d collage on a piece of drift wood. A wall sculpture to commemorate all the soldiers that went to war. You are so talented. You could make a mould for a pudding doll head from a whole one. Then add it to one that is missing a head. So much art can be made with everything. Well done. Yay. 😁🎨💐

The decorative strip of folded silver is definately from an embroidered purse, possibly beaded and fringed. I have a small collectiom of antique purses and the recessed bit all along onse side would have held the fabric in place. One I have is very much like this, only there ais one for each side and one has a clasp that folds over both metal tops to hold them together. Beautiful detailing on this one! I imagine you could make the most precious party purse using that, the bit of chain, the assortment of beads, and the pretty winged buckle with some creative effort and a remnant of silk or fine wool, some embroidery floss and a bit of metal smithing tweaks! The bird looks like a red crested finch or cardinal, I don't know birds well but it looks like a bird you'd see in the US. But I know what it is. It's a Northern Mudlark! ❤️I'd wear that as a pendant on a long chain any day! That tiny flat perfume bottle too! The size reminded me of tiny chinese painted snuff bottles. I imagine a little poem or personal message on a scroll stuck in with a tiny gemstone, a tiny cork or beaded stopper with a silk or leather string attached to the neck would make an amazing personal gift! The winged buckle was one of my favorites. If you cast a bunch of those they could be equally pretty with a bezel in the center, or make great wings for little dolls faces or fairies out of frozen Charlottes as decorations or quirky jewelry. As a fan of surrealism I'd love a winged dolls ear or eye and brow! A silver one simply set on a satin or velvet choker ribbon would make a stunning Christmas present! As a former potter I have to say Alex, the melted cone on the old kiln brick was very keenly spotted! Isn't it fantastic how knowledgeable you've both become from mudlarking and researching finds?! Thank you for sharing it all with us! I miss the UK! ❤️

I loved that. The long filigree sliver thing, looked very much like a piece they used to put on the back of a comb. Which made up a set of dressing table fancies for a lady, or gent. Matching brush for hair, a mirror and maybe a clothes brush to finish the set. Just a thought. I love these adventures you take us all on. You never know just what you'll find.
