Wayne was one of the many Joey's of the "80s that became the Kangas of the "90s, giving great joy to a generation of Aussie rules football fans. With a New Zealand background, he was always mentioned in discussions about the multi-national appeal of playing the game. And Wayne is now an articulate and inspiring leader in the challenges faced by athletes and all of us, to recognise mental wellbeing, as vital in our lives. Much thanks Wayne.

Staggering how someone with depression can play that well. He was diagnosed when they started to be a top 2-4 side and carried it the whole way. Winning B&Fs. Remarkable performance given the impact depression can have on people.

Thanks for the reply of that I had no idea on why he had gone to Sydney after being so successful at North Melbourne .

Hi Wayne, although i am a Richmond fan i will never forget when you first crossed to Sydney when you and Tony Lockett kicked 12 goals between you to singlehandedly beat a very strong West Coast at the WACA. Although you played some great games for North Melbourne, i still believe your 5 Goal haul on that night was your best individual performance, i remember being so excited and wishing you were in the Yellow and Black instead. Keep fighting the good fight mate, you are an inspiration to us Australians.

Love to read about other supporters loving Swatta. I barrack for the pies but got continually battered by other "Collingwood Only Barrackers". I didn't care and still don't. If Swatta could find the time I would love to know how he made it through the other end of a MI? How's your day to day life now Wayne?

Hi Mike, sorry its taken me so long to reply to your message, really appreciate you taking the time to post your message. I am about to launch a public FB page (in my name) which will focus on mental health as well as AFL. I will be uploading video recordings of the mental health presentations I will be doing moving forward and these talks will include much of what you asked about in your message (how I made it through the other end of a mental illness). Would welcome your involvement once the site is live, take care mate talk again soon. Swatta

I may have missed it but why did he leave North Melbourne and Head to Sydney ?

What if he did take drugs and didn't have food poisoning

If my aunty had balls , she'd be my uncle! Leave the ifs and buts alone! The man said he had food poisoning, Wayne has proven in many many ways to have unmatched integrity and loyalty and would and did put his body and mind on the line for his team mates , supporters and the game. If Wayne said it, then take his word for it , he has earned all of our trust over the years. I'm so fortunate to have watched him play for north , and although he is very humble , his team mates were privileged to play along side of him, the confidence he gave us supporters was huge and I'm sure the players felt the same ,, I'll bet locket even felt grateful to have such a champion deliver the ball to him with his deadly accurate left foot. I wish him every bit of health wealth and happiness for the rest of his life.
