I bought a cheap one off aliexpress, exactly same internals. This Alex guy just rebranded it.

I would call it a ripoff by northridgefix. This pen called MaAnt alt Ali express without branding for only 8€. Ty again for a teardown finally someone doing a great job exposing a shop with overpriced China BS. Great job mate

Thanks for this video. I have been thinking of getting this pen for a little while now. I have an identical yet older version E-108 (not northridge fix) that requires a wrench/tool to change the bits and it drives me crazy 🤣

Those are just rebranded MaAnt D2 grinding pens, BTW. You can get them from lots of places without paying the "NF tax".

I have the same grinding pen and is very helpful 4 surface mount circuit boards grinding away traces that are corroded or damaged and extremely narrow traces

So is anything with a sharp edge. I have this same crappy grinding tool aswell and i can expose the copper on a motherboard trace easier with one swipe of the end of my tweezers that i can with this grinding tool.

That is the intended use of tool, for the lightest details.

I wonder how this would fare for severing a trace on the slimfix v4 for the ps2. It seperates the mute signal into L1 and L2 connections. I mostly use an xacto knife and slowly sever the trace but this might make it much quicker. Ill have to pick one up for myself to try.

@haloslayer255 a sharp knife is also a solution, the solution is to be very careful - also with the grinding pen :-) Thank you for comment

I bought one of the first ones from NRF and it didn't hold up too long. After a few months the battery would only hold a charge for 2-3 days and of course when I needed to use it it was dead. Then it would keep shutting off after 10 secs. after it was charged. Very annoying, Disappointed. My housing would not slide off. Maybe the V2 corrects those problems.

This has not been a problem for the V2 version i have so far. I understand that you are annoyed - its very hard to do RMA on these things ....

@I_Evo I see a lot of rebadging with no customization except name, logo, and packaging. These China vendors are very shady sometimes giving rejects or blems to these type of buyers.

The soldering wire, for example, comes from the manufacturer BEST in China; the BEST logo disappears, as well as the "made in China" label, and his own logo is added. This solder is sold for around $6 on the Chinese website Parts4repair and $19 at his place. He uses almost all the products he sells, except for his Fluke multimeter, Weller soldering irons, and his hot air station from the manufacturer Quick. He seems to repackage his flux himself into 10ml syringes. In a video, you can see about ten boxes of empty 10ml syringes under his desk.
