I'm a newcomer to your videos. I was a radio tech in the USAF and did component level repair on all of the avionics equipment. As new system came into inventory we found that surface mount technology was something we were not authorized to work on. We didn't have the tools or the skills to do such repairs. Now nearly 15 years later SMT is now the norm for consumer electronics. I would love to get set up with a scope and hot air system but now I'm much older and my hands are shaky. I just wouldn't have the physical ability that you have to do this kind of work. I love watching you do the repairs though. You have a great attitude to your work and you're blowing the minds of all of your viewers. Keep up the good work and keep making videos.

That stuff on the pads is indeed a piece of the old flex cable (substrate) and its pads. Just use a biiig solder blob to remove them, they suck into the blob when the tin between the pads melts. I see this a lot when someone tears off the old flex before the tin on every pad is melted. Instead of tearing off the pads on the PCB, it tears off the pads on the flex cable, along with a piece of the plastic substrate.

Any prior attempts? 🤣 What we should ask is... do you own a soldering iron or ever heard of a pentalobe? As always, nice fix. I’m sure it’s all very embarrassing and the customer will be very pleased. 👍 from me. 🇬🇧

why is the tristar tester so expensive,it does less than a calculator
@beardyface84923 жыл бұрын
Economies of scale. Everyone and his brother has a calculator, cost of setting up production spread over 100s of 1000s of units. Want only a few hundred or a few thousand of something the cost goes way way up. Often small runs are assembled by hand rather than machine.

Just want to start by saying I love your vids i own a repair shop as well I just don't understand the part where you said you're going to charge the customer for both pieces when it's our job to check the device thoroughly you can't trust a customer sometimes they don't know about the device and sometimes they lie you should have definitely check the flex cable before attempting any kind of chips replacment. Very risky to do the customer is not going to know all the info every single time it's our job to protect yourself by checking every piece and doing the easiest repair first Yes customer should have told you but its on you to check to protect yourself from issues and safe time. God forbid you are changing the tristar chip something goes wrong and the whole time is was the port which was unchecked

"Trust, but verify." ;) Trust only your own eyes and intuition. "The next morning my PC refused to turn on" last time turned out to actually be "I bent some pins on my AMD CPU" 😂 Some straight up lie, some just don't know what secrets other family members are keeping from them. 😁
