Do you mean to say that they charge for a screen replacement but only replace a fuse? That would be a dirt bag move on the part of the shop. I know they have to diag the problem but they should not be dishonest. Remember also that fuses typically won't blow just because there was a reason that it blew

Lenovo seems to be a good choice overall. My Lenovo ThinkCentre was manufactured way back in 2009, but it is still fast enough to watch a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 60 frames per second. So there is no problem watching YT videos or NETFLIX at this resolution and fps, and also movies and TV shows that are 100% free at a website that I found. I bought the Lenovo as a refurbished computer. So it only cost $200 CAD ($157 USD). Anyhow, the CPU stays between 40 - 55 C temp, the GPU 38 - 50 C, and the SSD about 27 - 31 degrees C. Good enough for me.

Dear Alex. I watch all your videos. I am trying to fix my sons graphics card (Sapphire R9 390 Nitro) and have determined the problems are a blown fuse, 1 mosfet and for good measure the 5V regulator on the backside. I have ordered all parts BUT I cannot get these chips off at 400c (of course with AMTECH flux). This seems way higher than other boards that I practice on at 350c and remove chips with ease. What temperature do you advise? I did get the fuse successfully swapped by first adding low temp lead solder. Soldering on the replacement was easy using leaded solder. But I next wanted to do the big 5V voltage regulator and it isn’t budging at 400c. I am worried about damaging the traces if I go further up in temperature. Also I don’t think adding low melt leaded solder would work since this chip is surface soldered underneath. Just for added information, this board is black (not green) so I am guessing this means it can handle more heat than average? Not sure if that means anything. Could you please advise the best way to get this chip off? I am guessing the last chip mosfet will be the same difficulty since it is also soldered from underneath and must be flow soldered off. I am using a good SMD rework station that can go up to 450c. Thank you Alex ahead for any advice. Your videos are great & greetings from Canada! Anyone else who knows the answer please also advise. Thanks! This is a great community.

Why did the fuse blow in the first place? I would have done some more digging to see if there's anything drawing more power than usual which would cause the fuse to blow. Maybe one of the LEDs in the backlight failed and that increased the power draw causing the fuse to fail. Seems a little risky just putting a 0R instead of a fuse without confirming that all current draws are normal.
@flyt1293 жыл бұрын
I once blew this fuse when I changed a faulty screen without unplugging the battery. In the end I replaced the whole motherboard as I could get my hands on one for 30€ which was cheaper as letting someone exchange the fuse. Sadly my soldering skills are not up to this task.

With ALL Thinkpad laptops (and possibly most modern laptops), it is REQUIRED to either disconnect all batteries or temporarily disable them within the BIOS BEFORE removing the LCD connector. Otherwise, the fuse blows when the LCD connector is disconnected as the LCD power lines are always "hot" even when the laptop is off. Older Thinkpads did not have this requirement as I was able to plug and unplug LCDs even while the laptop was on (for testing). Not sure when it started but definitely around the T460s and 6th gen Intel Core laptops as I had to learn the hard way. To be safe, always disconnect all power.
@naturbo2000_23 жыл бұрын
I blew a fuse on a T420 by changing screen without pulling the battery. I ended up piggy-backing the new fuse physically adjacent to the original as I don't have the soldering skills to pull off a full replacement. This guy makes it look super easy. Let's pretend it's all in the equipment 😀
@umutgenc13 жыл бұрын
Just remove battery. I guess it'll enough. The rule of disasambling electronics is disconnect all power.
@pp3v42_g3h3 жыл бұрын
You can't disable the LCD in the bios, the backlight power is from the main power rail, it's always present. It's this way from the beginning (from the T410 for sure), but almost all laptops have the backlight voltage direcly connected to the main power rail. (However sometimes you can disable the battery in the bios but it's easier to be careful and take a second to align the connector properly)
