Goodness, I'm flabbergasted to see its a Concert Hall disc, I have no such treasure here in this house, I'm jealous!!! So many gems, outstanding must be 'Buy Broom Besoms', we wld sing that at school say age ten eleven from a BBC radio schools broadcast. A marvellous tune capable of endless extemporisation and invention. Theres not been a week in my life I have not sung that tune.

Is lowland Scotland apart of Northumbria?

It certainly was part of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria in the 7-10th centuries.

You're quite an expert on ethnicity and culture in the British Isles, aren't you? Northumbrians are English, simple as that - no Geordie would dispute it (except maybe Sting!). However it is true that traditional music has survived more strongly there than anywhere else in England, and that this music is distinct both from the rest of England and from Scotland. Beware of believing too readily whatever it says in the sleevenotes!
