Watched this series for the first time and great adventure and great crew! Also because the NPT is on my radar as a long hike I can start doing in sections. :)

That looks like an old dynamite storage box. I have one in the barn back home. We used the dynamite to blow out stumps. You keep it covered in dirt or concrete. To keep it cool. Dynamite when it gets hot sweats. The sweat is nitro. Which will end your day with any form of heat and pressure.

Dynamite storage box? That's so cool!! Regardless of the truth, that is what it is from now ... wicked! LOL

Thanks so much for documenting your adventure! I watched a few other youtubers journey, but your was my favorite for two reasons: 1: You're a bit heavier than the average backpacker (please don't take offense), which is sssooo heartening to me, since I also fit that criteria. 2: You are so positive mentally! You're trudging up a wet hill, but saying how pretty it is and how lucky you are to be out there! So great! I bet I can do it too!
@JayMorrisonOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Yea -- I'm definitely a bigger guy (no offense taken) -- what can I say, I really like burgers and beers and ice-cold Cokes ;) All joking aside though, one of my goals with the channel is to show folks that you don't have to be in marathon shape to get out into the woods and have an adventure as long as you're prepared and willing to go at your own pace! I really hope you get the opportunity to get on the NPT yourself -- even if it's just a section hike -- I don't think you'll be disappointed! Thanks for watching!

@@JayMorrisonOutdoors We did it! My husband and I early sept this year. What a beautiful trail! We planned 8 days but needed 9 to complete. It was such a great experience, especially this year, where we all need extra endurance and patience. I let the rainy day get me down, and a few of the extra steep accents. But, it is an experience that I am eager to repeat. Thru hiking is such a good lesson in mental patience and endurance. I thought of your cold river experience while out there... fun.

Congrats on finishing the NPT! Thanks for taking us along for the epic journey and showing the highs and lows. Just goes to show the value of friendship along with some perseverance. I just recently found your series and started watching before you released these last two videos. Good timing I suppose. The videos with Dan in the fall were the best. Gotta love the fall colors in the ADK. But this last video was amazing too with the waterfall and finish in Lake Placid.

First congratulations on finishing the NPT.. It is a good trail minus the mud holes and the blow downs. It's a great trail for anyone wanting to test themselves and their gear prior to a long distance hike. I've been fortunate to have hiked the NPT several times as a thru-hiker and as section hiker. I've yet to do all the new section of trail at the south end, and the new section of trail that moved the trail off the road from Wakely Dam to McCains Farm (no longer their farm). Here are a couple of tips that came to mind while watching your vlog. Food Drops, I used on several occasions the Oxbow Motel. I stayed the night there and when I checked in the box was waiting for me in the room. Once I also used the caretakers at Lake Durant. I tried another time and they didn't want to do it, (different caretakers), but it is a great spot as it's right on the trail. There is a piped sprint a little ways across the trail form the lean-to where you stayed at Cedar Lake. At one time the was a sign with an arrow that said "Spring" . The sign is gone and the last time I hiked by there, there was a piece of scrap iron laying on the ground where you turn to go back to the spring. It's probably a couple of tenths off trail. It's the only water source I would trust without filtering I agree with you completely that going over the saddle N-E of Blue Mountain, it best done south to north. (iI've done it both ways). Anyway, Thanks for sharing your trip.

Hey John, thanks for checking out the series, and thank you very much! You shared a lot of great info! I'm hoping to do the trail again someday, but in one shot next time and likely SOBO for something different. Beautiful part of the Adirondacks, and I encourage anyone interested in the super long distance trails to give the NPT a couple weeks of their time ... I don't think they'll be disappointed! Thanks for watching!

Congratulations Jay on completing your NPT. I felt your heart break when you had to exit last year, but more importantly you did not let those minor setbacks get to you. You came back stronger and you had all of your close friends behind you... (Except for Mark when he got ahead of you on the trail.) BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO! Now maybe you will share your little letters of inspiration your wife packed on your first trip out. Sounds like a camp fire round table is in order. Thank you for bringing all of us along on your epic journey!

Congratulations on finishing your thru hike, and on a job well done with the videos! You finished within the year so you're definitely an official thru hiker. I'm getting ready to hike the NPT in a couple of weeks, and your series has helped me a lot to prepare -- thank you! One quick question: is there anything special one needs to do to park at the old train station in Lake Placid (do I need to get permission or let anyone know?), and was your car safe? I'm planning on dropping my car off there, then being driven down to Northville and hike back to my car, so I'd be leaving it for over a week. Any advice you could give would be appreciated. Thanks, and congratulations again!
@JayMorrisonOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much - it means so much to me that people are finding some value in the videos! As for parking at the old rail station, just park in the back and you should be good to go - at least that was what we did, and it was perfectly safe. I would recommend not leaving anything visible or valuable in the car, just in case! You never with people these days ... My others words of advice are: 1.) take it easy the first couple of days - we did big miles our first few days out and it was less fun 2.) swim whenever/wherever you can - it's very relaxing and helps with the smell ;) 3.) document your trip in some way - it doesn't have to be video like mine, but a photo album or a journal to be able to look back on or share your experience with others! Good luck, and have an amazing adventure!
