Great video !.. highly explained step by step.....anyway.. must say that you start at the opposite way... next time try it by starting on the bolt side and you will not need the special tool to remove the valve... just open pump arm completely, remove lug by hand, closing slowly the pump arm will force the valve back .. repeat two or three times till valve pops out.....after that..... procede to remove the pump arm same way you did it on this video..

Thank you for this awesome video! I have a Benjamin 342 that I got for Christmas, 1971 when I was 13 years old. It has been sitting in my closet and then my gun safe for many, many years, unable to pump up. I rebuilt it using the information you showed in this and other videos and it is back in service, shooting like brand new! I used the seal kit from Baker Air Guns.

Hi - thank you for posting this great video. I've owned a Benjamin 312 .22 for 60 years and I just inherited a 1964 Benjamin 317, .177 caliber and another Benjamin 312 .22 caliber. The 2 "new" Benjamin's were badly in need of rebuilds. Your video really helped me - I learned quite a bit from your video and from reassembling the rifles. My original Benjamin is in great shape and doesn't need a rebuild, but when it does, I now know what to do. Thanks!

I bought a reseal kit with the valve tool from baker air guns. This video was hard to find again on youtube. I was wondering do you have any videos that could help me to re-assemble the gun back together?

Hello... Great Video (All of them)... very clear & concise. I disassembled a Benjamin 317 that I picked up cheap ($40) and is in Excellent shape, except that I was getting 6 - 8 shots from 8 pumps !!.... Great shot count, but NADA for power of course. Clearly the dump valve was either jamming.. or plugged. Turned out to be both... the valve was loaded with all kinds of half dried / oily crud, so... I followed your excellent dis-assembly video (with the 312) and it was a breeze... and I had a valve removal tool that I got with a kit from PA about a year ago, when I rebuilt a .20 cal. Sheridan. The only problem I'm having is.... You never did a "RE - Assembly" video of that 312... and I'm trying to figure out, how the heck you get the dump valve back in there, and pushed down far enough to get the lead washer(the one between the valve & the brass nut) in there, and all the while... keeping the dump valve held down against the dump valve piston spring and in that "locator groove" at the same time while trying to get the brass hold down nut, screwed back back in to hold everything in place.... !?!!?!? HELLLLP ?!???... PLEASE ?? Soon ?? Any directions -via- a reply would be Greatly appreciated. Thank You, sir.

2Stroke Diesel Power Ok, I'm working on it. Patience is a big part of airgun repair, and sounds like you have that nailed. It can be problematic to use lead rings that don't have the little tab as the lead may not spread into the slot and then slow leaks sometimes occur at that end. Some synthetic seals seem to spread and seal better. But when using lead, just put the valve in, i.e., the valve body, exhaust stem, and inner lead seal, don't worry about the outer lead seal or nut yet. If you can get it all aligned and pressed in, then while pressing, tap with a small ball peen hammer. That will 'squish' the lead, making it hold the parts in against the pressure of the spring. Best if you have a tool to also squish the outer lead seal while you tap, but the inner lead seal may hole by itself. Then, if it sticks, you can put the outer seal and nut on and tighten it down at your leisure. Tim McMurray at Mac1 Airgun Shop showed me how he would do it if he were a home tuner (Instead of having all the fancy tools). He starts with the parts inserted and the tube lying on its side, flat on the table. All the parts, including the nut. He uses synthetic seals and puts a dab of silicone grease on the inner seal to hold it in place. He works the stub on the exhaust valve stem into the spring and presses things in gently but firmly. Then he sticks it straight up and while holding it all in, uses a flashlight to check alignment of the tab, then presses it all down until the nut hits the threads.He will then rotate the tube counter clockwise until he hears the threads click, to make sure he doesn't cross thread it. Then its just a matter of tightening the nut. Of course, McMurray has done thousands of these since he was a kid working in his grandpa's airgun shop in LA. Less than 30 seconds and it's done. And he has a tool to clean up the internal threads, a tool for this and a tool for that. Not limited to just the home tuner multi-tool Sorry for the delay. I'll get back on it and get the videos done. I've actually got three more planned on the old Benji/Sheridans. Just have had lots of stuff going on and hard to find the time to pull it all together.

Appreciate the video. How would you recommend polishing the seal surfaces inside the 312? I rebuilt mine which held zero air, and it still holds zero air. The sealing points did not look the best with the help of a boroscope, however I couldn't imagine any way to clean them. I used the Baker's 312 kit. This was my first tearing down an air rifle, and didn't have the faintest idea how they worked as I've never worked on any such thing, so your disassembly and cutaway videos were invaluable.

Great video. I have one that the tool will not thread onto the valve. Any Ideas?
@NorthWestAirgun6 жыл бұрын
I've had that happen myself, usually someone has been in there and tried improper tools to get the valve or valve retaining nut out. You can end up with stripped threads on the valve and may need a new valve body. If the gun still pumps up, you can try to pump the valve out. A bit of light heat (hairdryer not torch) can help loosen the valve. The thread on the valve is 9/32-32, which is a very uncommon size. Try gently tapping the tool onto the valve before you screw it on, the softer brass will sometimes conform to the threads on the tool and let the tool take hold. I made an oversized tool, i.e., just a bit larger than 9/32", that sometimes will grab the stripped threads on the valve. A long necked plier usually doesn't work and can make the situation worse., so not recommended. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

@@NorthWestAirgun Thank you! I finally have it out. First attempt was to make a tool similar to the correct tool only tapped to 5/16-24. It did not work. how can I troubleshoot my Benjamin 310? It's a 1951 or earlier model with the 2 piece bolt. Been a great gun for many many years! Recently lost its ability to hold air. Still make a phht sound when I pump the handle but that's it. Does that indicate that the pump cup is no longer working or do I need to get the tool and the kit for repairs to the entire unit?
@NorthWestAirgun7 жыл бұрын
Yes, a sound like that generally means the seal is toast. Some people pour WD-40 into the tube, supposed to degrade the seals, make them swell a bit and seal for a little while. But you'll be back to phht fairly soon. I'd say you got your money's worth already with that gun. But might as well go ahead and fix it correctly, and it should last for another 66 years or so.

@jonathanbrooks11104 ай бұрын
yes, flange side of the nut goes in first usually, but if you can’t get the threads started, turn it around and start the flat side first. Better than fighting with getting the threads started and getting cross threaded instead . Up to you. Not sure what you are talking about with the seal, one goes on the inside of the exhaust valve against a seat on the inside of the tube, the other under the nut (between nut and exhaust valve).

Ah, the pump cup. A couple of types, one is the easily replaceable kind, you probably have the other kind which can't be rebuilt but must be completely replaced. Best bet is to contact Mac-1 airgun shop (www.mac1airgunshop.com) or other vendor and see what they have for you. There are aftermarket parts to replace what you have, but maybe better to replace with a more flexible set-up to take the readily available seals.

Hello, I am trying to restore a Model 310. This video has been helpful, but I am stuck on trying to get the pump lever off. My 310 seems to attach the lever with a hallow pin, there are no screws (like the one you removed at 4:10). Seems like it would be easy to tap out the two hollow pins, but I'm afraid of damaging them as they are hollow. Do you know how to remove these pins? Incidentally, the pin holding the arm of the pump to the tube has torn both sides of the tube from years of use. I'm hoping that the tube can be repaired by soldering. Thank you
@NorthWestAirgun8 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcus, if it's a Model 310, I'd guess that somebody swapped out the original pin and replaced it with a roll pin. They can take a bit of effort to punch out, and there are special punches that have a kind of nipple to fit into the hollow of the pin, but I've just used a regular pin and was careful to tap it out. As far as the 'wallowed' out tube, thats a hard one to fix. If you have machine tools, you might be able to make a custom pin to fit, but you still have to get the holes the same size and at some point the pump arm would be weakened if you enlarge it's hole by too much. You might want to look for another gun, that has the front end and pumping assembly in better shape. If you try the soldering, let me know how it works out.

Have acquired a mid 50's #317 [.177]and a 1962 #310[BB=.177 smooth bore]. Could you provide the source for synthetic seals? I have extra lead seals with no tab. Also any sources for pump arm rivits with washers? Just bought a $20 Sheridan Blue streak [1982 and only replaced the pump cup] - fun gun like the Benjamins. thanks again

+John Brewer Gee John, sounds like you've got the bug!! Those are all fun rifles, I find that even kids these days with the hi-tech looks of modern weapons, they still love the classic style guns too. There are lots of sources for kits, even ebay and pyramid air. But it's nice to be able to talk to someone if you find yourself out in the weeds, so you could also try precision pellet, ab airguns, mac1airgunshop, and baker airguns. Mac1 has great kits and includes rivets iirc, but doesn't sell the valve tool. Investigate to see what you're getting into on the rivets. If the rivet hole in the lever is wallowed out, you'll have to drill out the lever and the link, make a bushing to fit, and reinstall it, working around the link spring. can get kinda involved. Good luck and let me know how it goes for you.

The most recent search on eBay produced this item: "VALVE TOOL for certain Benjamin Sheridan Air Rifles Rifle with Soldered Valve" I appreciate this video showing the use of this valve tool. The current price for this tool is so low that it is not cost effective to make one yourself. yeah, hate when that happens. You can make a hook tool, use 1//8” welding rod or similar, and bend a small hook into one end. Has to be small enough hook to fit into the center hole of the washer, but strong enough to pull the stubborn little thing out of its seat.

After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel kzbin.infoUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
